Hi all,

I am looking for opinions for the JL community. I had the dreaded FAD issues on my 2021 Jeep JLU Wrangler. I've done a lot of research and am wondering if anyone has done a solution that im thinking of.

The Solution:
1) replace the dana spicer with the wide dana spicer thereby locking both front axles together.
2) cut off the forks on the FAD and reattach the FAD as per norm. thereby making the FAD function as normal but without the forks to move the spicer back in forth

The Reasoning:
1) this would limit the need for a tazer to be install and reprograming of your vehicle because your fad will still be install and appear functioning as normal but without the forks to actually be moving the little spicer back-forth
2) save some cost. will only require the dana spicer kit as seen here --> https://www.justjeeps.com/dana-spic...T_UmxXZuh3yKqr71RV8IYkyV57UzwDQRoCSnoQAvD_BwE
3) tazers themselves have been problematic based on others comments --> just google tazer issues and you get a large number of complaints

The Question:
1) Has anyone done these? Anyone suspect any potential issues?

Im all ears.

Also, im a new member so apologizes if this has been identified in an earlier post. I love my jeep and love spending quality road trips with my family with it.

Cheers.

I have disabled mine with Jscan. I have it wired through a relay for ground control to manually engage it with a switch. I now have the option of 2nd low range for trail riding.
Jscan license, OBD reader and adapter cable are way cheaper than the Tazer if you don’t have other uses for the Tazer features.

Interesting, appreciate the current reply. This still results in me spending approx >80$ before tax to accomplish my hypothetical solution. I see how some people may see the value of the JSCAN, but for me i don't think i would use it much.

But i'll review it before i right that idea off completely.

There is also AlfaOBD. If you are doing this kind of work on your Jeep, $80 is a bargain for peace of mind and the software will come in handy for many other things including bleeding the ABS brakes. I bought the block off plate as I'm planning on adding front LSD.

It appears you're trying to do this as cost effectively as possible....so why do anything? It's not a problem currently so why not wait and see if it becomes a problem?

My experience with the tazer would lead me to believe that the majority of issues you're reading about online, are more user error related than device error. I've had mine for 5+ years without issue. I've updated the firmware multiple times to gain new features as they've been added and the tazer continues to perform flawlessly for me.

I wheeled many a mile without any FAD issues, before I finally upgraded my axle shafts and deleted the FAD at that time. Having said that, by going with the axle shafts designed for no FAD, I did introduce a slight hum (around 65mph) that I wouldn't have had, had I just gone with the stock design of upgraded shafts. My point is that by deleting the FAD and locking the two-piece axle shaft together, you may introduce a hum or vibration that you currently don't have.

Another though on this is if you just change to the 1 piece shaft and take the engagement collar out the FAD with shift fork will just act as factory and move but not do anything. Accomplishing the same with no changes to factory programming.

Well, i live in northern Canada and my FAD has be disabled / not working all winter so im literally stuck in 2wd for months at a time which is unacceptable... I believe this was caused by moisture, idk. Anyways, I don't want a repeat of a failing FAD and my aim is to limit cost while having 4wd guaranteed when needed.

@zuki_dan
I thought about this earlier. I thought there was inner seals that were required to keep the diff fuild in the diff...? This could very much be an option. My earlier thought to was - i wasn't sure if the one piece shaft would be smaller than the forks. Good Idea!
Would this be what your referring to? https://www.yukongear.com/products/...VT2o4RiVbiS_Lmg16plsygiUXIuDDGA4Vtuv0ooK-ex7E

There is an inner seal and sealing surface as seen on the shaft you linked. The shift fork should be big enough to leave stock and fit over the 1 piece shaft. You will have to remove the engagement collar that engages the 2 piece shaft when installing the 1 piece inner shaft.

My 2025 Willys 3.6 AT has no FAD, go buy the block off plate and place the collar over both inner and outer right front axle shafts, then install said plate that holds the sleeve in place.

@zuki_dan Ya that seems like a really good option. The shafts are more pricey but the there will be no question whether or not the 4wd is working. I like it....

@WillysMeow You have no problem with 4wd serv lights? I would have to remove my FAD which would involve disconnecting the current fad... I have a 2021 JLU btw. I was worried there was a potential for the collar sliding out into 2wd between the two axles? Might be a dumb question.... just a thought.

A Tazer is a lot cheaper than one piece axles, and a Mopar block off plate is way easier to install than one piece axles or the Spicer kit.

I had TrueTracs installed front and rear in my 23 JLU, and had the Mopar FAD delete plate installed at the same time. The FAD wires are taped up and zip tied out of the way. The Tazer makes the Jeep think there never was a FAD in place. There's more the Tazer can do, but I bought it for the FAD delete. I have used the Tazer for other things now that I have it. Error codes and dash lights drive me crazy.
