Is anyone using the factory spare tire carrier with a 33" tire?

Visually and a few relative measurements it looks like there will be enough room to clear the 3rd brake light, but it looks like there would be a clearance issue for the tire to the rear bumper.

Thank you

I’ve used the factory carrier with 35” tires.
33” will be no problem. Especially considering that they’re an OEM size.

I noticed you have a Rubicon, I think my factory spare tire set might be different. My factory tire size is 245/75r17 = 31.5" tire. Between my tire and the bumper measures about 3/4" and I'm going up to a 33" tire. I'd prefer to keep the factory carrier but I think it's gonna be close.

Just looking at it from a math perspective you're going up one inch in diameter. That's half an inch in radius and you have 3/4" to play with, leaving 1/4" to spare.

Note, of course, that a "33 inch" tire can vary dramatically in actual diameter. Make sure you get the dimensions of your new tires first.
That's a good point. I was just looking at the specs on the tire from the manufacturers website it says: the overall diameter is 33.3 inches.

33.3 - 31.5 = 1.8" diameter difference
1.8 / 2 = .9" radius difference

You've only got .75" to play with, so it won't fit.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
What about deflating the tire, would that net you any gain?

It would, but he wouldn't know if it was enough until he paid for them and had them installed.

That assumes, of course, that he has a reliable air compressor too. Hopefully he does.

I kind of thought it was going to be a close shave. The tires are on the way, I do have a Viair compressor. I figure if I add a few spacers I can kick it out a little that might help. I was surprised how beefy the factory spare tire carrier is. I don't think the added weight will be any problem for it. I'm not against a spare tire relocation bracket utilizing the factory spare tire carrier. That will be fine.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
