Please post or PM me if you've given a thought to removing the spare tire carrier. I am interested in ideas (how to handle backup camera, brake light, anything else?).

I'm currently trying to assess this situation. I'm the phone with ace engineering now asking about their "JL Gatekeeper" because I'm lifting and going 37s and I don't want to mount a 37 on the tire carrier. I'd rather just wait til DV8 launches their tire carrier. This is ace engineering's product.

Izzy901: thank you very much for sharing the information! I'll learn more about that product.

The spare tire in the back is a CJ/Wrangler staple! It'll lose its character if removed. That being said, I always like to see what creative mods people come up with. Carry on! :giggle:

Update: Changed my order up top to the gate plate. Should hopefully have it one day next week and will update once it's installed. Includes camera mount, and third break light. This will be my go to until more aftermarket tire carriers release.

That gate plate from Ace Engineering meets my needs. Thank you, Izzy901 (and Ace Engineering, of course).

I'm going to order this as well if my factory wheels sell. I just don't trust my heavy wheel/tire combo on the back, and I'm sure with time there will be a rear bumper or carrier I like available.
Let us know how the factory camera needs to be modified to fit.

The only time I ever needed my spare in either of my JK’s I needed 2.... so, that kinda sucked...cut down 2 Toyo MT’s on shale rock...was not one of my better days...

Makes more sense buying that than the tailgate reinforcement. I'd imagine the only thing holding the swing away carriers up is how to deal with camera.

Excellent - thank you. That stance looks great so I’ll track down the BS

Any idea what tires those are or if they’re 35x12.5s vs 315/70s?
Based on this, you can see the 12.50 in the corner so I'm assuming 35x12.50x20
