You are certainly welcome to your opinion as am I.

in 40-years of driving I have needed to leave my non-fca vehicle over night less than a handful of times And virtually always for a significant item — like a valve job on a high-mileage camry.

My FIRST appointment with a well regarded Jeep dealer in houston took 4 days to schedule and then they needed to keep it overnight to check the battery in the ess system. Frankly, that is crappy service given my personal experience of 40-years of owning Fords, Toyotas, Audi’s, and Acura’s. Period.

The last time I brought my acura in for a “check this and check that“ appointment, it took one day to schedule, they checked everything, and had it back same day............ but not FCA.

had an issue with and Audi once. Towed it to the dealer. Checked and fixed that day. Easy.

the OP in this post needed a freaking battery checked.... a battery...... checked.... simple... check the battery...... and they had to keep his car overnight. Do I believe that the dealership that sells you a $50k luxury vehicle should be able to check the battery system in your vehicle the same day as the vehicle gets towed? YES.

you Can choose to be happy with service that is BELOW AVERAGE. I’m not.
I'm a part tech......so my perspective is different...it's called reality. Your perspective comes across as.......the line at the DMV is out the door and "Your" the priority.

Yeah a battery check takes 5 minutes with a scan tool; what about labor and the supply chain? Something the customer doesn't see or nor know of?

Your age and price you pay for car(s) is irrelevant. Your that guy dot period.

If your car has "always" been turned around in a day w/o an appointment.......that's called luck; again, dot period. I'm more likely inclined to believe your "service" experience is inflated to prove some internet flex. I'm a full time CySec Instructor for DoD and can smell trolls a mile away. I'm not buying the proganda just like the extended warranty.

I'm not special, just an individual that's worked in and around the automotive industry for 20+ years. I have a JL Rubicon that had a $60k sticker price.....though I didn't pay that; so what!

Your big "talk" might impress or scare some.....but with my experience, it's class A rubbish.

What is terrifically odd in your two responses to me is that they call me both a troll and a liar. Odd, to Be able to make that judgement from two posts, no? To me, that’s what folks do on the internet when they have nothing else to say - they denigrate others.

I told you both my opinion of this specific situation (from the OP) ..... and I’m a troll. i then told you why I have that opinion based on my experience for 40-years of car ownership (“Luck”). You call me a liar and a troll again.

good luck to you. Goodbye.

I think in the above disagreement you both make a point. It’s not that one of you are right or wrong. Yes with a 50k vehicle you’d expect good service, especially for a small fix. But also, we have to understand that a place can get busy, be backed up with services and sometimes we have to wait.
As a plumber with a small business I’ve had people over the years call me mid day and say “aw c’mon you can’t fit me in? The job should only take 10 minutes”.
Depending on my schedule sometimes I say ok and sometimes I say sorry but there’s no way I can do today.

Update: My Jeep is at the dealership... they said the ABS module was producing the errors... so they are replacing it...hope to have the Jeep back Monday...after it has also sat for a few days to determine if the ESS battery is not holding a charge...
Hope for the best now!

Just got my Jeep back for low voltage code, dealer needed it overnight., I asked same question about testing battery length of time. The shop forman overheard and answered. Seems because this is a safety issue and aux batteries failing are a thing, Jeep requires an automated load test/charging system test. Couple of cycles of drain/charge cycles. He said takes a few hours to complete. They hook it up and walk away while it runs. Mine was the battery sensor. True or not I didn’t see the test run, but they have been straight with me for years.

Amazing what people discover and come up with. This was an easy solution for the ESS disable.
Got a "Key Not Recognized" alert in a GM rental leaving a restaurant. What do you suppose people will come up with to start a JL ...... say, in 110 degree heat in the Maze, or on the Grand Staircase, or past Jaws 4 - Blanca Peak before an unexpected September blizzard if battery dies or Key not recognized?

"The key fob will need to be reprogrammed to the vehicle as if when the battery was replaced in the key fob, the key was reset. This is why nothing is working with the key fob. ... After replacing the battery in the key fob remote, you will need to reprogram the remote to the vehicle."

Just wondering.

Simple, you press the start button with the remote, as the dash would tell you to do.. most difficult part is having to manually lock and unlock your Jeep with the flip out key. Bold text is so cool, Please insert quarter and play again

After having not driven my Jeep for 5 days, it wouldn’t start yesterday morning. It was completely dead - remote entry wouldn’t work, no instrument panel activity at all, wouldn’t turn over at all, nothing.

Got it jump started, and then engine light was on and error message saying Start/stop unavailable, service Start/stop.

Drove it straight to the dealer, fixed by the next morning. ESS second battery had failed - no charging at all.

Lucky I was parked in my driveway at home and not somewhere remote.

one other observation - I had noted the engine feeling a little rough, more noticeable at idle, which they said was related. Has gone away now. Something to keep your eye out for.

thanks to Normandin - great service experience!
Many owners of brand-new JLs have complained of similar issue. Some had their Jeep lose all power driving home from the dealer.

Perhaps the delay is because of the higher then normal issues jeeps have with ESS and probably some other stuff. Maybe the other manufacturers just dont have the same amount of troubles. My jeep dealer is PACKED all the time.

My ESS went out on the drive home from the dealer. Brought it back took 2 or 3 days and they found a short in the wiring harness. nice. Went out again almost a year later. Bad battery, also took 2 days.

ESS really is a scourge.

I have an '18 and haven't had any issues yet, but now I'm almost guaranteed to because of this post lol

As for dealerships, I think you have to be understanding no matter what. I never want to be "that guy" when it comes to anything, to be honest. People who lose their cool and think they deserve things instantly are rarely people you want to be around.

Yes, yes, you pay more for a car you want better service, but even with jeep prices creeping up, jeep itself is not a luxury brand and their dealerships are never going to be run like one. You need to weight that in your mind if you're gonna buy a jeep. If you think this isn't an issue of wanting luxury but just quick and solid service, well, I usually get that at my local dealership. You may just want to try a different place.

ESS really is a scourge.

Update on my adventures so far;
They replaced the ABS module, then the issue presented itself again. They were playing with the white harness along the firewall...and the jeep would shut off and/or dash would light up with errors.

They found that that harness was very tight and when they played with the wires it would freak it out. They looked through alm the wires and didnt find any shorts/broken wires. They released the stress on the harness and re-seated all connections... now waiting to hear back after it sits all weekend at the dealer.
