i'm not "against" your claim. I simply pointed out that it's not accurate the way you presented it
Jeep Wrangler JL Engine decision {filename}

Kinda seems like calling a statement inaccurate is the same as being against it though, like how many things are you for that you think are inaccurate?

lol, i'd say 90% of JL/WL 2.0s in existence start leaking oil at the timing cover/head junction point before 20k miles. just about every single one that comes into the shop is leaking from there. it's so bad Stellantis asked us to stop re-sealing them during inspections; they want a customer complaint before paying out under warranty. some just seep and some leak like a sieve
Best info that I’ve seen in these threads in a long time. Thanks! :like:

LOL another one from the guy raggin on me over reading comprehension.

Maybe go back and re-read - i'm not "against" your claim. I simply pointed out that it's not accurate the way you presented it. I told you I agree with the sentiment that you shouldn't buy a vehicle if you can't afford the maintenance costs for it .

Call me an optimist I guess. I like to think that anyone can learn with enough effort.
Im just glad you havent modified your Jeep and are saving your money like a good financial decision maker.

I just turned 20k miles, I haven't seen any oil leaks, could those in the know show me where to look to keep an eye out for it?

Oil leaks eventually find their way to the ground. Look there.

open the hood and look at the left side of the engine at the timing cover just above the a/c compressor. the point where the head meets the block creates a t-junction with the timing cover which causes the leak due to lack of RTV on the timing cover at the factory

very few don't leak from here. as i said, about 90% of the 2.0s coming into my shop are leaking from here. most are just seeping so it isn't a big deal, but every now and then you get one leaking profusely

And if a leak occurs, is the fix just a gasket or is it more involved?

So not flex seal and duct tape...got it!
I didnt say you couldnt use flex tape just that properly is to remove the cover and reseal. Hell you could just spray the hell out of it with cleaner and then put 3 tubes of grey rtv on it and hope for the best.

So i't's essentially a 3.8.
Hey don't speak ill of the dead! The 3.8 in my old 09 was a tank! Went 160k miles, only issue was a cylinder misfire and she liked to eat oil in her later years...:LOL:
