Just curious....if a JL windshield is replaced by Safelite or similar installer, is it identical to factory glass, with the Jeep logo on the passenger side?

If you get the factory replacement yes. Generic lower cost replacement then no. But they have vinyl stickers you can buy and put on the window after install if you really want them. Lower cost generic glass that’s basically the same windshield and buy the vinyls and save money.

No, you would have to ask for OEM and specifically from the manufacturer. They [glass company] will say it is factory or oem equivalent and install Pilkington which wont have the Jeep logo

Thanks all. No idea what the price difference is between OEM and equivalent glass without the logo, but I don't really care about Easter eggs. If the price difference is significant, I'll likely go with equivalent.

Wish my installer could have gotten the GG to replace mine with. Now I just have the standard OEM glass lol.

Hi,

Just had my gorilla glass replaced, check the corners of the window as the installer scratched the paint so now I get to visit a body shop, joy

If you request oem it will be the same as they did my JL and my wife's JK and both have all the Easter eggs

Regards,
Jim

From all the negative threads I've read here about the JL windshields, I do believe I'd be more inclined to go aftermarket..lol

I don't think it's the windshields themselves, just the brick-like aerodynamics of Jeeps. I've driven numerous models for decades with all sorts of glass, and none were immune to this problem (including GG). Just another "Jeep thing," but it's OK...if the design was more aerodynamic, it wouldn't be a Jeep!

Ask them for OEM. I would HIGHLY recommend staying away from Safelite. They did massive damage around my windshield which they had to pay to get fixed. Ordeal took almost 3 weeks.

It’s all about the installers they send. I had some shithead installers leave black tar, scratched hood and fingerprints all over the interior of my overland van. I started using the small mom and pop guy that changes windshields for the dealer. Best service and really professional. (Gold Star Glass if you’re in the Phoenix area)

You had a bad experience with Safelite.. You could have had the a bad experience with any auto glass company..

Safelite has some top notch installers and some lousy installers too... Safelite is no different then any other auto glass company.

As for me.... I do my homework so to speak before I let any particular glass tech touch my vehicle.

Anyway, a poor install can be done by a given glass tech with any company. Know your glass tech's reputation before you allow him/her to touch your vehicle. A glass tech should be no different then anyone touching your vehicle... Know your tech's reputation..

DO, let the g;ass tech that touches your vehicle (before he touches it) that sub par work will not be accepted/tolerated and that good work will be rewarded with a cash tip and a good review and positive comments to his company. I also let them know I am OCD so...

Below, is a Google review I did a week ago in regard to a windshield install by Safelite last week.. I had my JL's windshield replaced. I met with the Mgr. and glass tech before the install and set ground rules lets say. The Manager told me he appreciated the heads up that I was OCD and that I would be on a rant, if they lets say... screwed up..

Funny.... In regard to this install .... I was told by a Manager of another Safelite store, to not have his guys do the install but to go to another Safelite about 20+ miles away.

The Mgr. told me all his guys were new and he could not assure me they would do a problem free install. He told me to go to their other store location and have top notch, glass tech, Anthony do the install.

I’m glad you had a good experience. As you stated above I did my research and explained sloppy work would not be accepted. Did a walk around with both. I understand accidents happen but the way Safelite upper management handled the situation was piss poor. I should have been more clear in stating that. I won’t go into much detail about that but from what you are telling me is that when their work is done right it’s stellar. Just want to warn that the customer might be in for a treat when they have to deal with the ones that take care of damages.

I'm guessing that Manager just didn't want you as a headache of a customer to be serviced at his shop. He punted you to the next Safelite shop down the road. Makes no difference to him that you went to another shop.

@bigcitymike

Actually per the Safelite regional rep I spoke with... she said the Manager that "punted" me as you call it, was a new, recently appointed Manager and his store had lost all of it's seasoned installers and had a rash of recent install issues at that location. The recent Google reviews I read in regard to that particular store were mainly bad reviews and supported what the Regional Rep told me about problems at that store.

Anyway, I'm glad that new store Manager and the Regional Rep did punt me... I'm glad I did my homework before falling into that particular Safelite store... the store with the issues, new Manager and new to the job, little experience, glass techs..
