If those with eTorque spend a few days with the ESS in the non-eTorque, you would appreciate what you have a lot more. The ESS experience in the non-eTorque is truly annoying. I have a Tazer in my eTorque only because I had one in my non-eTorque but now seeing the difference, I don't even use it for my eTorque.

3.6 etorque,

While stopped waiting in awful traffic I needed to gun it! I did but the engine needed to re start, I barely made it avoiding an accident, my heart skipped a few times. I got flipped off in several different languages.

I know, I should have remembered to push the button, I only had my jeep a few months and there was a line of cars behind me blowing their horns, I was stressed ok, I forgot.

Start/eliminator worth every penny to me.

To each their own.
100% this. Normally don't mind the start/stop doing it's thing when stopped at a light, but my last turn is at the top of a dangerous blind hill where accidents happen dozens of times each year (has a blinking light, sensors and a 25 MPH limit, but semis and triaxles still blast through at the usual 55 MPH+ highway limit). Already had a few times where I forgot to shut off the ESS and had it shut the engine down in that exact spot, where mere milliseconds of reaction time is crucial.

Usually the half-a-second delay isn't a big deal, but in the right situation, I really don't want a useless feature adding to my already slow reaction time.

Surely it can't be good for longevity. I don't mind it when I forget to push the button, but a Tazer is in my future I think.

I don't blame you at all but it does raise an interesting point for me.

I thought I read, or maybe I was simply under the impression given my own experience, that one of the many reasons that ESS won't engage is if the vehicle sits at an angle (with respect to, at least it's front and back as opposed to side to side pitch--which may very well disable it and should I think.)

Perhaps that's wrong, or only applies to angles where the nose is lower (or higher) than the rear of the vehicle.....

No, that is 100% true. If I'm stopped at a light on anything more than a 3° inline (4°+ up or down), my ESS will not shut the engine off.

The blind crest of the hill that I mentioned is flat for about the length of one vehicle (narrow 2-lane crossing), so it happens to engage the ESS in that particular spot if I come to a complete stop.

Tired again
Devices like the auto stop eliminators and the Tazer effectively do two things as it relates to ESS:

The first is they remember the state that the ESS button was in when the vehicle was last parked, and if that button was engaged (i.e. ESS was turned off via operator button push) they issue the CANBUS commands that form the programming equivalent of you pressing that button the next time you cold crank.

Stellantis isn't allowed to have the ESS button remember its state from cold crank to cold crank. If it did it would not meet the EPA requirements for such buttons to be non-latching and default to an ESS on condition at cold crank, and Stellantis could not report the more favorable MPG ratings achieved that form the average MPGs with that button on and off, on both Mulroney stickers and to the EPA for fleet CAFE mileage standards.

The fact that different JL Wranglers implement ESS differently (e.g. dual AGM battery JLs, Etorque 48V battery JLs) is pretty much not "on the radar" of any of these devices: their job being to just send the programming CANBUS messages that form the equivalent of pressing the ESS button (if was pressed at last park), whereafter the specific JL the owner has implements ESS as that model is designed to do.
Great explanation the "how" and "why"!

Now I, wish that Taser would issue the same command for the Cruise Control "On" button. (I have suggested it to them...)

I unplugged the plunger switch under the hood in mine shortly after I bought it 4 years ago, no more stop/start bullshit.

How much time did it take for your brain to ignore the dash light?

Ha! About 2 mins. I get the light and single chime when the Jeep hits about 25 mph after each engine start. I don’t even notice it any more.

eTorque and ESS are two different things
ESS sucks in Jeeps
eTorque fucking rocks with silky smooth shifts and instant torque from a dead stop

But, but, but e-torque is way more complicated and potentially more problematic…

I installed the Stop/Start Eliminator wheras it remembers the last State it was in and resets what was last used everything you initially start thd vehicle. Works real good every time.

Complex? I'd say a 392 fully loaded is complex, 4xes are complex, this is a mild hyrid drive train that has been faired well in Rams
I was being sarcastic
I have the e-torque in my ‘21 and have had zero issues. Just over 4 years old and still on the original battery. I can count on one hand how many posts with e-torque issues.
Now issues with the non-etorque equipped models? I think there are a few more posts🤪

wish Jeep had done more dev work with eTorque in Jeeps, that instant launch is fun everytime
