Jeep is smoking crack, wanting 189.00 per side for parking brake shoes. Ridiculous. How did you wear out the parking brake exactly?

The dealer isn’t wrong, which sucks.

Absolutely no idea how it wore out. I live 10 minutes from salt water so the dealer thought it might be salt. Sounds like crap to me but who knows as I've seen it eat through brake lines in a fairly short time.

Dealer is crazy. MSRP on a set of shoes (both sides) is about $180, and the job calls for 1.6 hours labor.

They're quoting you nearly double what is "reasonable".

I agree with your confusion 100% I have had the cable tensioned 3 times since December 2022 and now the shoes are shot. My driveway is an incline so I use the e-brake every day, plus I use it a lot when wheeling, but I've never driven with the e-brake on which is the only way I can see to wear the shoes down. It is possible that other people who have driven my Jeep drove away with the e-brake engaged, but the vehicle is really good at alerting you that you are driving with the e-brake on so I am at a complete loss.
Has anyone attempted to adjust the shoes?

So my understanding is that adjusting the cable tension adjusts the shoes force on the hub. This has been done 3 times on mine since December 2022. I'm at the point where no matter how tight the cable is and no matter how much force is applied by the lever the vehicle will still roll if not in gear.

JMHO. If you dont have the skill, you pay for it. Check around, maybe you can shave off a few benjamins. Will it bite you in the arse if the skill is not there at the cheeper cost? ?‍♂ I have no skin in the game. Best of luck in getting the work done. I am able to turn a wrench and fortunate enough to buy the tools that I dont have to get the job done right. Even if I redid the pads 5 times while practicing, it wouldnt add up to what you were quoted. Again. Just my $.02

What are you talking about? It calls for 3.6 hours labor and lists the per car quantity as 2. The inventory may be wrong, hopefully it is, but the labor isn’t.

ALLDATA shows 1.6 hours labor and cross referencing the P/N online shows four shoes for about $180.

Granted, ALLDATA could be wrong, but it usually isn’t. And FWIW, older Ford Rangers are essentially the same and I can do a set in less than an hour without pulling the axles. It’s a pain in the ass, but very do-able.

Hi all. My dealer wants $900 to replace the ebrake shoes on my 2018 JLU 3.6 MT. I have no frame of reference. Is this crazy or reasonable?

Thanks!
They are easy to do. Youtube it. There is no way I would pay that.

Looks like the part is definitely for all 4, dealer catalog was wrong. Typical.

It take longer to jack the Jeep up and remove the tires than getting the rest of it a part to do the e brake pads.

This all day. It took me less than 2 hours to replace mine and I did it while I was installing Power stop rotors and pads (which did not help with braking so I upgraded to Teraflex).

The axle in no way has to be removed and some $20 tools at Harbor Freight + $20 Power Stop shoes at Rock Auto saves you the better part of $850.
