Screw Moab. Wait until July and head up to Colorado. You can do the Alpine Loop. Imogene and black bear pass. Hopefully by then they would have the road to Animas Forks cleared as well. Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride are all awesome places. Plus there’s a lot less tourists and a lot less bros. We just drove from north Alabama and have been all over the area including Moab. If we would have known we would have just skipped Moab and stayed in Colorado an extra few nights. We’re averaging 16.5 mpg on a sport with 35’s and a ton of gear.
Headed there.

That’s something to consider, I knew they rented Jeeps, but assumed they were stock, thanks.
They have some built rigs there,

Twisted Jeeps was really cool. I would fly and rent if I were you. Unless you want to drive across the country.

I’m driving mine in 2 weeks. Just going to do the white rim trail and a few other things. Only going from Phoenix so should be an easy drive.

We are making the trip this month: WA state to Moab for 5 days then to SoCal and back up to WA. We are towing our travel trailer. I know gas is gonna suck it I just retired from the navy and Moab has been on my bucket list since I got my first Jeep 15+ years ago so I’m going to suck it up and make it happen lol.

If there’s one trail I can recommend and encourage others to run, it’s top of the world. By far my favorite and we ran a bunch of them in April. Fins n things is a nice easy run too but TOTW has the best views I had ever seen

Moab is still somewhere he should go, there's no place like it in the world. However, the current climate in telluride area you're going to be lucky to get up there even in August this year. There's so much snow (and they're still getting more) that there are some sections with over 100' of snow still up there. Yes, 100 FEET. Next year or the following I'm planning to do black bear, Imogene, Ophir, Poughkeepsie and engineers pass but there's no way I'm not ever going back to Moab.

I wanna thank everyone who chimed in, I appreciate you taking the time. You’ve given me some answers and some things to think about and consider. I lived in Mesa Arizona from 1980 to 2000, and never made it to Moab. I was wheeling back then but not in a Jeep. I had a 1974 Toyota fj 40 that I restored and wheeled for many years. Then moved to Colorado Springs, and lived there for couple years up in the Black Forest. But didn’t wheel there, I was between rigs and driving a lifted Silverado. So I was right there..... just bad timing I guess.
One other question I had, is it all free willie nillie there, just show up and go where you want or are there controlled trail rides and guides and what not?

Fins and things and hells revenge require a small fee, everything else is free. Don't forget there still tons else to check out in Moab. Everyone will mention arches national park, but don't forget dead horse point. It's probably the most beautiful place in the world.

We made it up to Telluride without any issues.

Disagree. If you're going to actually wheel and not just sight see...Moab eclipses the San Juans hands down. If you're more interested in scenery...then yeah....the San Juans are beautiful; though this year with 600% of their normal snowfall, I'd be surprised if the major passes are plowed making backroads travel impossible if trying to connect towns like during "normal" snowfall years.
Definitely would be going to wheel, I’ve seen the Grand Canyon, and I lived in and explored the beautiful state of Colorado, so although I would take in the sights in surrounding areas, wheeling would be priority one for sure.

Really? Recently?
About 4 days ago now. The main roads are clear, but most of the loop is completely blocked. Animas Forks is unreachable because of an avalanche. But we got to Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride with no issues.

We went to “wheel”, fish, camp, sight see, and just whatever came up.

The wife and I just went up to Moab for Memorial Day weekend. We both drove our own jeeps from New Mexico. We did Fins N Thing's, Hells Revenge and Top of the World. We topped off every morning and never had a problem. We used Air B&B and stayed in a nice RV in OK RV park. Price wasn't too bad. I've wheeled in CO, AZ, and UT. We are going back to Moab for the 4th of July! After that, we will be going back to CO to hit Ouray and Silverton trails again. Don't forget to request your Jeep Badges of Honor.

I was just regurgitating what I heard on the book of faces!
