I am not talking about punishing the designers of the JL’s door net. We all know they have a special place in the underworld for it.

I am talking about a passenger that, unknown to me, put a spare can of soda in the passenger door net. And that beverage sat for DAYS until discovered by myself. Keep in mind this was a door net kept pristine for nearly 4 years.

Anyone else had their nets ruined this way or similarly? If so, what was or is the appropriate punishment?

I know the feeling. Frustrating.

I really like my DV8 MOLLE panels. The plastic ones from UUO above area good, but require you to take the whole panel off. These slot right in, no fuss.

Had these and loved them for the price compared to other options, but my wife is pretty short. That's important because we discovered the hard way in an emergency when she went to drive and pull the seat all the way forward, she couldn't close the door due to the bump out portion.

Had to swap them out for the similar models that are flat molle panels

The only real use I’ve found for the nets, and likely their intended purpose, is to hold the door plug harness when the doors are off.
Mine started to sag even when I only use them to hold door harness.....

That’s really good to know, wouldn’t have thought of that as a potential problem. Seems like they didn’t really think through the full design space, or just made a call that they would were willing to restrict seat use for the functionality of the bump out.

Ascetics, libertines...everyone is welcome to use the door nets as they see fit. :)

As for punishment, you're going to need: a roll of duct tape, a stainless steel cloche, a live rat and a blowtorch...

What I hate is my boots (Merrells) have lacing hooks on the top and they will hook the net on the way out. It has happened to me numerous times and I have to awkwardly unhook after stretching the net. I always say to myself " those nets have got to go".

Is the install convenient enough for me to easily swap them over to the half doors in summer?
I read the instructions on their site, and they are simple, but was looking for real world input.

My driver's side was ruined by the button on my jacket sleeve. It was snagged for approximately 0.72 seconds, and caused irreparable damage.

Passenger side was caused by an unknown, but likely similar, event and/or a pair of sunglasses from a passenger (which I noticed only after several minutes.)

I've been very happy with my (overland-outfitters) replacements, though.

I believe those are made by Overland Outfitters: Link
Correct.
I looked at some of the metal ones but some people report clearance problems and discomfort when resting your left knee on them while driving.
These Overland Outfitters ones are not cheap, but are very well made. There is a couple of threads here somewhere that go in to details.

In my opinion, yes. Two little brackets with factory Torx screws lock it in-place.
