I have 7,000km on my Rubicon, I bought the Tazer for a few reasons but turning the start/stop off was one of the main ones..BUT I am totally ok with it, I have a manual transmission so as previously mentioned it will only stop the engine if you remove your foot from the clutch, even light pressure, which does not engage the clutch is enough to avoid the start/stop activating...
I find myself purposely removing my foot from the clutch to ensure the engine stops when I see I will be stationary for any more than a few seconds...the restart is almost instant as soon as you push the clutch so no need to "prepare" to move off,I find on my normal 40 min commute the start stop will engage around 10 times and will then not always stop even when you have your feet off the clutch as I assume the battery hits a threshold after a certain amount of restarts in a set period. the only slight downside is that on two occasions I have been caught out as I just move away from a light with the engine running and at that very moment the engine stops because the start stop thinks I am stationary...not sure how much gas it saves but why pollute when you don't have to.;-)

I like the start and stop.
It's just a button if I don't want to use it.
I don't see the issue just push the button

I thought for sure I was going to buy something to bypass the ESS, but it turns out I don’t mind it at all. I don’t even use the off button. If I’m at a red light that I know is going to be a little while, I just remove my foot from the clutch. Otherwise, with my normal driving position, my foot just touching the clutch pedal is enough to keep it from engaging.

I've changed my mind on it. It used to bug me a bunch, and I made sure to hit the button every time I started the Jeep.

However, now I don't mind it, and I even kind of like it. I kinda like the idea I'm not wasting any gas or money while sitting there idle. It is way smoother than I expected, and doesn't usually get confused, although every time I pull into my garage and then creep forward, come to a stop, it turns itself off, then back on when I put the Jeep in Park, but whatever. And there's always the button if it annoys me too much. And it became a talking point with my 6y/o daughter about not wasting gas and money and being friendlier to the environment. She's pretty impressed by it (wait until some granola-cruncher tells her I should be in a Prius or Leaf or some shit though LOL)

I would like it more if it were an option you could activate with the button push vs having it forced on me.

My understanding is that when the EPA tests vehicles, they can't push any buttons to start fuel-saving equipment (i.e., push an eco button to enter fuel saver modes). Whatever turns on with the vehicle automatically is the configuration that is tested. So if Jeep needs it to hit their fuel economy targets, it has to be auto-on. I'm just glad they provide the button to turn it back off.

Yeah, I know. However, they could make the button so the ESS stays off and doesn't reset when the vehicle is stopped and started.

I have to get my say after seeing this thread. How come after 4 months of owning my Jeep my mind just wont register to un-activate the start stop lol. I always remember at that first red light “ “ to turn that C&#P off!

When I receive my 2019 JLUR it will be winter here in Las Vegas. As such, I will probably have the ESS on.

Moving into the hot summer months, if the cabin temperature is affected at some of the long stop lights, I will have it turned off.

I lived in Japan for two years from 2000-2002. I never rode the bus there but when walking down the street, I noticed that when the bus stopped at red lights, the engine would turn off. I always thought it was cool. 16 years later, I can do that in my JL. It doesn't bother me at all. I do turn it off when I'm in stop and go traffic on the freeway, but when I'm just driving around town, it stays on.

If your A/C is under heavy load, your engine will stay on.

I hate it. It doesn't react quick enough imo. ESPECIALLY if I'm coming up to a section of road when I slow come to a stop and I sense it wants to turn off because it thinks i'm stopped but I'm really just doing a QUICK STOP and GO. It annoys me. ITs like I'm faster than it and it can't keep up with my stop n go.

Its best to turn it off in stop and go traffic.

Also if you're pulling up to a stop sign and you know it will be quick, use light brake pressure and it won't shut off. Heavier brake pressure is the trigger for ESS.
