I’m kinda confused though as why Jeep would push this auto stop-start down our throat, while offering Remote start.
As in, they think it’s necessary to shut down your engine as soon as it comes to a stop, to save some mpg’s pretendedly, BUT, they think it’s fine to remote startvyour vehicle and let it idle and burn gas for as long as you want... Kind of totally opposite features IMO
It's not Jeep, it's the government. They are mandated to meet certain fuel economy. Just wait another 4 years and the requirements will be triple what they are now. Auto manufacturers have lots more work to do if they want to keep selling cars .

I know, but not sure government forces carmakers to prevent drivers from being able to disable that feature. If so, I’d like to see « proof » of it.
I don’t necessarily hate Auto stop-start, especially if some are happy to have it, but hate the fact that default is « Auto stop-start on »

It wouldn't surprise me to find that the EPA tests are done by getting in, starting the vehicle and driving it and they don't enable/disable anything.

If Start-Stop defaulted to off, it wouldn't show in the tests.

Any time I'm idling and my car shudders/vibrates funny, no matter what I'm in, ESS or not, I get some traumatic memories from my cars dying at stop lights in high school. I swear every car in the 90s just had the most pathetic idle intake systems you could fathom.

Yep I completely agree. I forced myself to get used to it on my Frontier. For drive thrus and things like that it's a no brainier. Also I've tried to beat the engine restarting, I can't do it. So I've not yet encountered lag taking off.

I am under the impression that the regulatory bodies are saying that a carmaker has to have their entire fleet meet an average gas mileage. Every incremental difference with each car helps. The standard isnt required for another 6-7 years, but nobody wants to be caught with their pants down in 2024 with a gap that they cannot bridge in a short period.

I don't mind it and like the idea of not burning gas while sitting at a red light. We also have an Accord Hybrid so I am used to the starting/stopping of the engine. I say any points for the earth and air we breathe are good points, if you hate it you can just hit the button.

Here in Wichita Kansas we don't have to worry much about big city smog. Whatever petty damage a car pollutes while stopped in traffic is inconsequential compared to last year's good old fashioned 1.5 million acre prarie fire or a dust storm blowing in from Oklahoma. Man cannot compare.

I would rather be able to place ESS in permanent ignore mode. It seems like a pretty silly annoyance from my standpoint. Just another case of some government bureaucrat shoving their petty opion down America's throat.

My car would reliably die turning left with less than 1/8 tank of gas. When peoole rode with me they would ask me what I was doing because theyd see me shift, restart and reshift before the turn was over to accelerate out. Lol.

Hmmm, maybe they should add that too!

Amen ! Probably gonna do this, we’ll see... but good yo know there’s a way out; and interesting mention of the Turbo engine having « forced stop-start » that you won’t be able to deactivate (no switch ?!)

Misconceptions/Questions:

So I "ASSUME" when off-roading and you drive 5mph and braking the engine would not just cut off the vehicle has to be completely stopped even so, it will not hurt anything.
To answer one of your questions: when off-roading you’ll be in 4Lo most of the time and per the user manual ESS does not engage in 4Lo (thank god). They do note however that they recommend turning it off during off-road use.

Other reasons ESS will be off without having to hit the button:
• Driver’s seat belt is not buckled.
• Outside temperature is less than 10°F (–12°C) or greater than 109°F (43°C).
• Actual cabin temperature is significantly different than temperature set on Auto HVAC.
• HVAC is set to full defrost mode.
• Engine has not reached normal operating temperature.
• Battery discharged.
• When driving in REVERSE.
• Hood is open.
• Transfer case is in 4LO or Neutral
• Driver’s seat is not occupied or driver door is open.
• Vehicle is at high altitude.
• The vehicle is on a steep grade.
• Forward Gear is engaged.
• System fault is present.
• Low fuel is detected.
• HVAC set to MAX A/C.

I am skeptical, just ordered my JLUR with a 6 speed, but it does look like they put in place some exceptions that make sense.
