I still use Google maps through Apple car play. Does this make me a navigation Neanderthal?
For navigation during road trips, I'll usually just shift the Zumo from the bike to the powered windscreen cradle. For the sake of comparison, I suppose this slots me firmly in the early Cretaceous. ;)

So I've had that option on for pop ups, and have never seen anything in the cluster. I use android aut and it seems to be only an apple feature. Another fail by jeep tech department.

It's ONLY for factory nav. No Android or iPhone support it appears

I've never understood why this wasn't a thing. There's been so many opportunities to help improve the vehicle experience from a tech perspective and so little has been done in over six years. Focus on quality and the customer experience and everything else will fall into place.

EDIT: Take a look at the jeep app for example. You have to pay for services that are free on every other car company, and if you do pay for it, the data is not up to date, delayed or doesn't work.

That's pretty shitty though, people paid like $2,000 for a factory navigation system, and now any old schmuck with a 12-in screen is getting it. Kind of makes you think the navigation system is a worthless addition.

Way to go Jeep, congratulations on depreciating everyone's Jeep who purchased a more expensive version. I'm sure that I'll do wonders for the brand! :headbang:
There was a time when in order to get the best and biggest screen/infotainment system, you had to get the vehicle almost fully loaded, which included nav. Those times are long gone.
The only useful feature left for me was the fact I could navigate anywhere in the USA with zero cell signal in case of emergency. Now, my Google Maps has an ‘offline maps’ feature which lets me download vast areas to keep in my phone for little space (it took less than 100MB to download a square area larger than the entire LA County) and be able to navigate while offline.

My next jeep will not have built-in navigation if I have to pay extra for it, as long as I can still get the best and biggest screen with the upgraded sound system and have wireless CarPlay.

The cluster will work with CarPlay also. It won’t work with CarPlay and google maps, but will with Apple Maps. Been doing this since I got my 24 4xe in March 2024.

You mean *wasted* $2000 on a factory navigation system. Apple CarPlay with every navigation app imaginable (offline, topographic, traffic, red light cameras, obstacles on road, speed trap, custom trails, and dozens more) ripe for the picking has been available since about 2016.

A note that factory nav will still work outside cell range, something Jeeps have been known to find themselves in. Other than that use case yes factory nav blows.

Didn't it take Apple nearly a (holy shit) decade to add offline maps? I'm pretty sure they finally added that fundamental feature last year.

But yes, historically just about anything has been better than built-in navigation. That's not the focus of vehicle engineers.

Not sure about Apple Maps, but Google Maps has had it for as long as I can remember.

I will shoehorn this into every topic I can, this is no exception. The fact that pressing the volume button turns the entire infotainment OFF instead of pausing media for which there’s:
*no* physical button for play/pause of media,
and an unmapped steering wheel button that doesn’t do anything,
and a dedicated+redundant screen off button for reasons unknown instead of simply holding an existing button,
and a mute button that doesn’t pause for all the times that you want media to continue playing but at zero volume,
tells me orangutans or at best domesticated chimpanzees are responsible for integrating UConnect with CarPlay.

The tech staff at Jeep needs to be restaffed. The lack of support they had for JL and the Jeep app have been terrible.

You can "sort of" pause with the off button. Just use volume know and it comes back on instantly.

@JeepCares

I received a response this morning from the Connected Services Web Team

********************
Thank you for reaching out, and I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re experiencing with the "Map Update Portal" for your 2024 Wrangler.

Please note that a Wi-Fi connection is required for this process. To update your maps over Wi-Fi, please follow these steps directly on your vehicle's head unit:

  1. Open the Main Menu.
  2. Choose Maps.
  3. Select North America/ Region/State.
  4. Click on Map Update Over Wi-Fi.
  5. Connect to Wi-Fi (Home Wi-Fi, Hotspot, or In-Vehicle Wi-Fi).
  6. Allow time for the software to download over Wi-Fi while keeping the vehicle running and connected. This process may take several minutes.
  7. Once the update is complete, you’ll receive a notification on the head unit. You can then exit out, and the update will be finalized.
Alternatively, you can use a USB flash drive (32GB, FAT32 format) and follow the steps on this https://stellantis.navshop.com/#/downloads.

If you continue to experience issues, please do not hesitate to reach out again.
*******************

Unfortunately, nether of the 2 options provided work and I have responded back to them with the details:

Thank you for your quick response. Unfortunately neither of the two options presented work.

Option 1: Use WiFi, I can get to step #3, but when selecting South Carolina (or any state for that matter) nothing happens. There is no step 4 presented. The wrangler is connected to my home WiFI for software updates.I have attached a youtube video.
Update via WiFi:

Option 2: Download to USB. I have downloaded the zip file, unzipped the files, and copied them to the root (no folder) on a 32GB USB drive formatted as ExFAT. With the vehicle running and the radio head unit on, when I plug in the USB drive to the port on the center dash console, nothing happens. Video is also attached.
Update via USB:
