yes, the young man with no skills and a family at home deserves to lose his job because he skipped a step in a maintenance procedure. It was malice, you say, a scam, but you have no idea.
You hit the nail on the head buddy, no skills and a family, shitty combination that isn't anyone elses problem except THEIRS. Should be working at a McDonald's instead of on 50thousand dollar vehicles.

Now that's funny ... you'd trust the guy to avoid botulism and ecoli, but not to change your oil filter ... ROFLMFAO.

I’m not sure about your city but we don’t have driveways or even autozones with parking lots where I am. I wouldn’t have a place to store ramps or even a creeper where it wouldn’t be in the way. Nor any place to keep a drain pan or a place to get rid of the used oil easily. Triple checking the dealer’s work is actually less effort for me.
I see, NYC.

I think you missed my point. At least his pay would reflect his abilities ;)
To be fair, your point wasn't entirely clear, but I do understand your perspective now.
Here in Canada they get the same minimum wage whether they work at McDonald's or as unskilled labour at a dealership ... the downside of socialism :(

I always change oil myself. When I do, I write the miles and date on the filter with a silver sharpie (when it's a canister filter). Anyway, do the same to yours even if a shop changes it.
Same thing I've been doing on my LJ since I got it. :like: my only problem is some times I didn't write the oil and filter changes down :headbang: but I normally change it out at 5000 or so miles, when I need to top the oil off it needs changed. ? The classic 4.0 rear main seal leak. FYI I've only used "synthetic" oil in it.

Oh wait until you see how much the dealership gear oil and transfer case change is.... That will probably be the "game changer" on over priced. For the dealership charge you can get after market diff covers and gear oil with money left over!

You just can’t get any better than Discount Tire. You can watch while they work on your vehicle and any problems of any kind with your tires are repaired for free. I have had nails in tires, valve stems leaking and everything was fixed for free. Also never had to wait very long to get into shop. I wouldn’t let any dealership even put air in my tires.
I had one I used for years. The owner was also the mechanic. I didn't let anyone else touch my cars. Unfortunately, he had to sell because of health reasons.

If they do post service reviews those are the best places to get results. I had, unintentionally, gotten my service rep fired after leaving a negative, but honest review.

I had some warranty work done on a car with less than 500 miles. Basically, they scratched the interior and dashboard up. When I asked to have that reconditioned (as I know they can) he told me I was being unreasonable. At which point the service valet even took my side.

Anyway, negative review. The department manager fired the service rep and the scratches were fixed up. I felt bad but they said I wasn't his first strike.

You can use the MyCarFax app to log your own service work and it becomes part of your vehicle's permanent record. You can even attach documents.

I can /could but my LJ I've had since 05 and has over 250000 miles so a little late to start now ? I've got a lot of it recorded to include a record of all my fuel used and cost, a file folder / clip board of all stuff added. Just not exact dates for oil changes.
When I got it I was tracking it and 3 other Jeeps, I bought oil and filters by the case or shopping cart.

Geez, lighten up guys. They start these kids out, doing oil changes. That's how they learn. It's up to you to double check their work. If they screwed up, report it, get it fixed, mark them down in the survery, then move along in life. But, to say they forgot to change the filter, or overfill by 1 quart, and they must be fired? Well, then get off your lazy butts and change your own oil, or supervise those willing to do it for you.

Sorry, no. They get paid for this and therefore should do it correctly.

Actually, It's up to the shop supervisor to double check their work.

I'm an architect, when I started out, learning the ropes, it was my manager who had to double check my work. And I took my work seriously. If I designed something that directly caused its collapse, my company was responsible. Not the property owner or customer. (And I'd probably be fired.)

It's unfortunate that they are so incompetent that customers are now forced to do their job for them.

Ah I see. The next time you make a mistake at your menial pointless job, remember that.
I agree with him. It doesn't matter what job you're doing, you should do it the best you can and with integrity. If they can't do that, find something else. And it may be simple vehicle service work but it can be life and death. What happens if they don't properly torque a lug on a tire rotation? I could be driving down the highway at 70 and have a tire come off and crash with my family in the vehicle. Mistakes happen and that's understandable but not doing a job correctly out of laziness isn't a mistake or whatever other excuse can be made up.
