So after replacing three aux batteries/main battery combos (and two high capacity fuse relaysI finally had my fill of the aux battery. I spent hours reading the forums watched a gazillion you tube videos and went ahead and did it
2018 JLU Sport all stock no additions add ons.
disconnected the negative from the pain terminal. Taped it up prifusely and zip tied it to it self to keep it secure

pulled fuse 42

Jeep is driven by my teenage twins they were constant with hitting the start stop switch to turn it off while I waited for the jumper cable to come in

had no issues
Cable comes in, installed it behind the a/c knob panel. Worked perfectly

about a month later the boys were driving the Jeep home and got all the electrical warnings on the dash I disconnected the battery cleared it out and it was fine couple more weeks ago by I did it again and this time it would not let them shut the vehicle down I thought maybe the jumper cord I got was causing problems so I took it out.

Fast forward two weeks and it just did it again when I cranked it sitting in the garage

The one thing I did not do was change the battery from H6 to an H7 mainly because that battery was brand new and I was going to wait until I needed a new one. Is it possible the auto start stop? System is pulling too much of a drain on the H6 battery and that is what is causing the gremlins?

If that is not it, does anybody have any suggestions because I am at a loss other than reinstalling the aux battery which I really do not want to contend with as it has been a headache

it would not let me turn the vehicle off. I had to disconnect the battery. It is completely random when it decides to do that.

I did the delete years ago, with zero issues. Get your newish battery tested, and check to see if all your fuses are fully seated. Fuses first.

Explain the jumper cable better.

Also you can pull one of the pin switches for the hood (I forget which one) out of it's mount, and zip tie it out of the way to eliminate stop/start.

I haven't done the Aux Battery delete yet, but I've been debating it. Don't you have to remove Fuse 42 in addition to removing the battery terminal?

I did the delete over 5 years ago on my JL, added a Start/Stop Eliminator and never looked back. It sounds to me like you have a corroded CANBUS terminal strip if shut down can only occur with battery disconnect. Removing the auxiliary battery and using it as a door chock doesn’t cause the ignition button to get goofy.

Respects

Appreciate it...After lots of reading that was my next option. I plan to remove the aux battery, just had not gotten to it yet. When removing the aux battery completely do you just tape up both + & -cables down below, pull them out, etc???

That looks sketchy. Remove that and try this.

https://www.smartstopstart.com/jeep-dodge-chrysler-products.html

However, for more control over your Jeep, I recommend and use this.

And yes, the H7 will support stop/start better than the H6, especially on short tips in town. Also, being teens, do they tend to play the radio with the doors open when they are hanging out with friends, working on it, etc? These JLs do not do well with extended radio play, and open doors. Get a Bluetooth speaker for that.

Also, if you keep the key fob close to the Jeep, the Jeeps computer will have a tendency to not go fully asleep, keeping the parasitic battery draw higher than it would be if the key is out of range.

after the second time of it going beserk, I pulled the jumper harness out. will def take a look at the smartstopstart. In the meantime they are really good about hitting the button to turn ess off.

But, an h7 is on the list as well. don't really have an issue with the extended radio play, but it is twins sharing a vehicle, and they each carry a fob so i'm sure one of them is drawing on it all the time :/
Was only holding off buying a battery b/c I just spent better part of 3 days replacing, plugs, oil cooler, both bank 2 O2 sensors, vvt seals, camshaft position sensor, etc only a month after I paid a shop to do the oil cooler on my rubicon. After doing the job myself on their JLU, I think I'll pay the shop if it comes around again - that was a tedious repair and just an all around PIA

Good for you on turning wrenches. I fond that it's not replacing that parts that is difficult, it's getting all of the wiring and and other parts out of the way. Vehicles these days definitely aren't built with serviceability in mind.

Also, anytime you put a new battery in, charge it to 100% prior to installing it. Often a battery on the shelf will have about 85-90% charge.

I just taped the cables after pulling the battery and the fuse. At the time, I wasn’t sure if going without the auxiliary battery would end my battery drain issues so I left them in there in case I decided to put the battery back in and try something else. Someday I might pull them if they get in the way…..LOL
