I really wish that Jeep would make the front and rear cameras work as security / dash cameras like the cameras in Tesla vehicles.
Teslas have a massive battery system that makes it possible to leave those on for extended periods w/o significantly draining those batteries.

Greetings,

I haven’t found much in searching the forums here on dashcams. Does anyone have any experience with what they think is the best dashcam?…ideally one that might offer some security features for unattended vehicles?

this company seems to be at the top of my list right now, but would love to hear opinions from others

thank you all
It might be smart to familiarize yourself with price points and features to see what is important to you and withing your budget.

Any serious solution that is going to be able to record while the engine is off is likely going to require its own dedicated battery. Even though many models with parking mode feature voltage cutoff solutions, so as to not run down your cranking battery/ies to the point that they lack power to crank the engine, I could see how energizing parking mode cameras with cranking batteries could run them down, particularly in long duration and cold weather parking.

Then of course, even with dedicated parking mode batteries comes the need to find ways to charge such batteries, be it solar panels or shore powered trickle charging.

I bought a Z-Edge after going through several iterations of disappointment. I love it, it doesn't miss anything.. Front rear and Park.

Yeah, I won’t need it to record in any ‘parking’ mode too much. Just when at trailheads and other places away from home

I have Thinkware in both of our vehicles. One of the things I like about them is that they have the most adjustable voltage cutoff of any cameras I’ve found - you can change it in increments of .1v with a 12+/-2v range. The Q1000 in mine is wired through the AUX bank and set to 12.1, and I have had zero battery issues or parasitic drain over 2 years… for comparison, my first dashcam was a Rexing with a fixed cutoff of 11.7v, and it did run my battery down a couple of times.

I also keep it on the lowest recording sensitivity for parking mode, since most my Jeep’s time unattended is spent in the garage, and the rest is at work (where the lot has multiple cameras). And I keep most of the optional functions turned off, including anything that makes noise while driving. So YMMV depending on how you use it. In my opinion the more important function will always be the continuous recording on-road, and it’s been trouble free for that purpose as well.

I am in the market for a driving dash cam front and rear. I looked at their website. Curious how easy it is to set-up and use? My wife travels for work so I'd like to be able to have her trips recorded in case of an accident. This system seems good for $150. Just curious your thoughts on the set up and wiring of it all. Thanks!

It all looks very easy to set up and get running. I think if you want to have it set to be directly wired to your cars power and have the cables hidden that’s a much bigger and technical installation.

A few of us only learned of that feature after it was reported that Cybertrucks were recording themselves being set ablaze by far-left loons.

Funny, that.

I use the app on the telephone. It is actually Wi-Fi. Makes it really easy to use. And the screen is big enough you can actually read what button you are pushing. This is what sold me.

If you want to be able to see license plates on moving vehicles (especially at night) in your footage, get a 4K dashcam with a Starvis 2 sensor. Also make sure you get a dashcam-rated SD card for recording footage (the dashcam vendor you select will have a recommendation or you can get a similar card from Amazon). I have used Vantrue N4 Pro for the past year and have been pretty happy with it.

I use a Rove dash cam, it’s front and rear. They even have one that has front, rear and interior cams. Look on Amazon

Z-EDGE has been a great camera, they have several models. It has both front and rear cameras. It is connected by Wi-Fi to your phone. The screen is big enough you can actually read the controls on the screen, but you can also use the iphone app ior android and it simplifies everything. I (no Lie) went through 4 different cameras and sent them back before buying this one. This also has aperture control, frame speed, night vison, it has it all. It has a fairly large lense in front that sometimes turns people off, but it lets them know :Smile your on camera"
