Yeah…. I gave it another go. There is no way I can budge those plugs. They are really in there. They aren’t coming out.

I feel like I’m in the before-fore, far-far times, going to get my Dad because something won’t budge. After a hundred eye rolls and redirects, he come out, almost bursts a hernia, then says, “Welp, that really is stuck!”, and starts whacking on it with a pry bar and sledge hammer.

Not that I’m discouraging help. I really appreciate the suggestions.

There is the possibility that I’m doing it wrong. Or maybe it’s so tight, I need a puller tool, grabber of some sort? I’m just afraid to go ripping on the thing too hard.

Here’s a picture of where I disconnect and plug into for JScan. I removed the panel just below the steering wheel, and then placed the camera pointing in and to the left. There are two connectors next to each other

Is that the gas tank up there? I see now…. it’s the side view.

The curved pice of metal on the right is the the brake pedal. I’m not sure what that box is, but definitely not the gas tank

I was going to connect JScan to change setting for rear LED lights that I added. I popped off the trim panel, found the two ports, can reach them fairly easy, and depress the tabs….

And I pull super hard while depressing the tabs, and they won’t budge. I can pull on them so hard that the grey thing they plug into creaks and moves a few mm. Pliers wont budge them. I can pull the cords pretty hard, and that won’t budge them. Rocking in all directions, they do not move at all.

Any tricks? I think they are glued in. These seem impossible to pull out, but not as hard to reach as 20 threads and 10 YouTube videos seemed to suggest.

I now want to drink heavily, eat handfuls of Nicorette and/or crack, and reenact that scene from office space with the printer.

you might hear they are here no they are here! 24 and 25 the location is slightly different. Still does not change that going in for service the gateway will still have to be plugged back in etc.

I got something easier to plug anything using and ODB II connector in with and bypass the gateway.

first pic is the hacked up Bluetooth Module I used for JSCAN to ensure this worked. Following are the finished hook up. Still deciding on a mounting location for the plug. I got more parts I can make another if at all interested.

I know, I was just exaggerating. It’s just that different angles look so different.

If it’s any consolation, my first time removing them was a bitch. My fingers were sore from pressing on those damn tabs. They finally came out. Each successive removal got easier

Unless you enjoy pain and frustration, first get the Zautomotive SGW extensoon cables, then put on your big girl panties and give it another try. You can do it. I wasn’t joking about the blood letting. When you’re done you will feel like this

I just went through this not too long ago with my Jeep installing this:

https://www.smartstopstart.com/jeep-dodge-chrysler-products.html

No problems were had. Remove the trim panel under the steering wheel, find the gateway module, push in slightly on the plugs whilst depressing the catch and pull like you gotta a pair 🤷🏻‍♂️

Was easy in and out in under 5 minutes 👊🏼🍻

I've done this a couple times on 2 Jeeps...it was not hard. You can remove the trim under the dash to get a better look. Worst case you could use a small screw driver to help you push the tab and pry down, but it shouldn't be that hard.

I get a long flat screwdriver and I put it above the little tabs on the back side and pry down lightly as I depress the clip. Come out quick and easy.

I did pop the trim panel off and have a decent view. I agree that it should not be that hard to unplug.

I did see if I could use a little screwdriver, and tiny Knipex pliers. Didn’t want to go nuts in a battle of metal vs plastic though.

I use a long screwdriver and pry against the metal bar at the bottom of the removed panel under the steering wheel

@Mr. Nimbus

I have dealt with the Security Gateway connectors on many (many) JL's and JT's. Some male connectors come out of the female connector very easily and some will make you work at it a bit to get them disconnected.

I encourage you not to use any metal tools when doing the disconnects. You can cause damage doing so. No need for tools! Also, careful yanking to hard on the cables going to the connector as you can pull the cable out of the male connector if you get to aggressive

When you go to remove the male connector, push the connector in firmly first and then press the tab on the backside of the connector in firmly as you now, with the other hand, ..... pull down, wiggle, pull wiggle, gently the cable that goes to the connector. The wiggle is needed... BECAUSE the connector has sharp edges that can and do get caught up in the female's inners.

Also, if you can, have your Wife do the disconnects for you if she is willing. She is smaller in frame then you and can get in under there easier to work.. Also, her small hands make the deed quite easy.

As I mentioned earlier, I have dealt with many a security gateway connector (early on was a guinea pig for ZAutomotive) and well, even today when I have security gateway connectors to deal with, I have my gal pal do the deed. :like:

As mentioned by others here... DO buy a ZAutomotive Security Gateway Extension Cable so dealing with the female connectors at the security gateway is a one time deal for you.
