Damaged windshield club

Joined the club today. Quarter size star burst crack dead center on the windshield. Rock caught by the windshield today. Anybody got a recent quote to replace? Not going through insurance.

Unless you know someone from where you live, the price someone else pays won’t be matter to you.
Prices vary from installer, location, taxes, recalibration for adaptive cruise if equipped and windshield supplier, oem or aftermarket.

Heard a thunk on the highway but didn't see a crack. Thought I got lucky, but alas!

I'm debating whether I want to bring it in or let it ride until I inevitably get another one that warrants replacement.

The prices for replacement in CT range from $400-$600 I‘m seeing. While insurance covers the cost with no deductible, it still is marked on your policy as a comp claim which does go against you.
Decided to bite the bullet a pay out of pocket. Cheaper in the long run.

I had mine replace the other day. It had 8 cracks in it. I ran it as long as possible.

OEM windshield lasted 6 months. Knock on wood but the safelite replacement has lasted 5 years though it does have multiple chips. I'm going on a long trip next week so I probably just jinxed it. I have a separate inexpensive add-on with my insurance company and in general, filing a claim for windshield will not raise my rate. If I have it replaced 3 times within 2 years on the same vehicle, it's a different story.

Any benefit by going to Gorilla glass?

Not unless it comes with the Jeep. That gives you one free replacement within the 1st two years, which I'm thinking is only if purchased with the rig.

From what I understand Gorilla Glass is intended to keep fast moving objects from coming through the windshield. It doesn't seem to minimize cracking.

I just replaced mine. I caught a rock on the lower edge. I thought I could live with it, but the next morning it formed a crack that went 3/4 up the windshield. I filed through insurance (free in Florida) and got it done yesterday. I asked the guy who did the replacement if Gorilla Glass seemed to help. He told me he sees it all and nothing really guards against rock chips except not following trucks which isn’t always possible. Looks like I’ just chalk this up to a Jeep thing.

Our '22 Rubicon has had FOUR replacements. We carry glass coverage and have for decades. We've had 5 Jeeps over the last 20 years. We rarely get 12 months on a windshield. Our "record" was four in one year including two within less than a month.

Had it on my first JL from the factory. UDOT seems to think sweepers in work zones are a bad idea. Anyway 2 lane state high way and a Semi going the opposite direction kicked up a rock the size of a quarter. Hardest hit on the windshield I’ve ever had. window still cracked, but based on the impact I really wonder if it would have come through standard glass.

it’s not a miracle product though, they still cracked if hit just wrong…

Not according to friend at work, got that with his 392 Rubicon. Multiple stars 1st year. Went with regular replacement glass. I took multiple hits on my Arctic drive this year, resulting in 3 stars and a 25" wandering crack. Regular glass replacement.

‘21 Sahara, replaced Aug…$250 deduct. Glass co said $900 if no insurance. Made it one month, another hit—triple cracks in middle. Living with it. Currently set to replace windshield in motorhome—$4400. 100% on insurance.
