my windshield randomly cracked while I was not even driving it. It happened today which has been the coldest day of the year. I'm assuming it has something to do with the temperature expanding the glass. Does anyone know if this is covered by the warranty?

Hey Terry09,

If you don't think anything struck the windshield and you want to have this reviewed for warranty coverage, we'd recommend visiting your dealer to have them take a look, and you can also request that photos are taken for internal review. This is the best way to determine if this might be covered. If you have questions, just DM us!

I'm getting ready to replace the windshield for the second time in two weeks!!!! I drive on a well- traveled highway not a gravel road. Add this to all of the other crap that has gone wrong with this vehicle, and I'm fed up. So far my "dream vehicle" has been my worst nightmare.

Joined the club today.

Up here in the Rockies, they sprinkle the roads with rock chips so it was bound to happen. Sucks that it happened so early into the snowy season because they don't sweep the rocks off the roads until May. At this rate, I'll be lucky if my windshield makes it to the end of the year!

I was driving along I-10 on the way to Las Vegas on 11/3 and all of a sudden, *blam*, I have a crack on the passenger side lower corner of the windshield. I could understand if had been from a rock kicked up by one of the damn big rigs, but there literally was NO other vehicles anywhere near me. The nearest vehicle was at least a half mile away from me and if he had kicked up a rock, there's no way that it would keep bouncing and be bouncing high enough for me to hit it by the time I intercepted its path. I was making a point of staying well away from the big rigs and other cars because I had seen this thread about the JL's windshield being a rock magnet. Basically a straight crack about 6-8" in length traveling to the bottom corner of the windshield. I had a grand total of just 2050 miles on the vehicle when it cracked. All of my other miles had been around town or back country roads and this was the first lengthy interstate highway trip.

With 230 posts in this thread, I'm starting to wonder if there is a defect in the way these windshields are made.

Considering they can make Hurricane wind and impact resistant glass for houses, you'd think a Windshield could be made to stand up to the force of a tiny pebble.

You would think so! However, I was basically told "it's a jeep thing." I'm so tired of that being an excuse.

Bought mine in May, chipped in June, fully cracked in July. Bout usual.

Having owned a half dozen jeeps from cjs on up, they all crack. This is definitely one of those "jeep things". I put two in my tj, one in my yj, two in my cjs etc. They crack, I replace them when the inspection is up. Part of the deal with a flat, upright windshield.

Two things about Wranglers. At some point, you will have a cracked windshield and if you keep your Jeep long enough, you will have to replace your radiator because it got beat up by rocks as well.

Ive been driving with a broken windshield for a while waiting for prices to get reasonable. I am confused how you all are getting some of the prices you are from safelite as I was just on the phone with them and apparently the state I am in is one of the lowest (so they say) but for the DW02415 with tax is 456.80 (+24.99 mobile service) and the DW02416 with tax is 366.63 (+34.99 mobile). How are you guys getting down to around $350 for the same windshield (DW02415)?

Also, the guy from safelite told me that the DW02415 is with the Jeep logos but isnā€™t listed as OEM. However, from the pics above it appears that it is OEM based on the mopar texts.

Guess I am missing something?

After having a TJUR, JKUR and now my JLUR (Windshield replaced and could not repair 2x already and windshield #3 now has a long crack as well)

Here is my personal view after my experience and reading all these posts.

It IS a Jeep thing to get rock chips. Fact of the flat window. Been through several windows on each.

BUT - the JL doesnā€™t just chip. It chips and cracks immediately! Beyond what most shops will repair.

Chip, repair. That is a Jeep thing.

Chip, spread to long crack within minutes, if not seconds.... THAT is a JL thing.

@JeepCares I would strongly recommend that you pass this thread along to Jeep Product Management. I am fairly confident that there is something they did to build this differently that makes this way more susceptible to irreparable cracks.

Product Management should be data driven, not just emotion on a forum.

I recommend Jeep PM check out 2 ratios:
1) a validation of the total number window replacements (not repairs) vs vehicles on the road (JK to JL)
2) the number of replacements per vehicle for the JK vs JL

Iā€™ll bet the numbers show a stark contrast and something should be fixed.

Solution: www.clearplex.com

Has been mentioned before by Jeremyjeep and Stevenc on this forum.

Maybe multiple layers can be used like on endurance race cars and then you just peel them off when a layer has become too scratched?
Did you get a quote? I am interested to know the cost. I have heard it is crazy expensive.
