Obviously I’m not the only one having their windshield crack because you turn in the defrost, have you looked at the 22 pages of the Cracked Windshield problems? And why should I pay for something that they screwed up?? I’m going to speak my mind and if you don’t like what I say then please don’t read my post, I’m speaking out on what is right, turning your defrost on SHOULD NOT CRACK YOUR WINDSHIELD PERIOD!!! Thanks and have a great day!!
And they need to do a RECALL on them!

I’ve had 3 cracked windshields since late July. My latest one lasted less than a week (replaced on 2/7), I decided to leave it for the time being and just got a seperate chip/crack a few days ago which had I changed it back on 2/14 I’d be on my 5th windshield - Ridiculous!

I just got my second crack since July, less than 5k on the Jeep too. The smallest rocks seem to do these windshields in too. Today's was the worst, hit low driver side and then proceeded to creep across the width of the windshield with one large audible crack taking it the majority of the way. The section from the middle of driver side wiper to the end happened in one go after the rock.

I truly believe @JeepCares needs to escalate this issue as it seems quite absurd that this many of us have had cracked windshields this soon and this frequently.

This is my first Wrangler, did JKs, TJs, etc. have this issue too?

@JeepCares is NOT gonna do anything until we take action with an attorney and there is someone talking with an attorney now, you don’t have 23 pages with the same problem, there is something going on with these windshields and if you turned your defrost on that’s probably what happened to your windshield

Defrost was definitely on. Colorado had a nice snowstorm all weekend.

There has to be a some kind of SAE minimum safety requirement for impact resistance for windshields. I think some of these issues might be due to FCA using acoustic glass which is thinner and lighter? Squeaky wheel gets the oil. Consumers need to voice their concerns or nothing will be done. Notifying the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is probably a good start.

People will say the Wrangler windshield has no rake angle and is more prone to cracks from stones. That was not my case for my TJ and JK. I owned a TJ for about 10 years and a JK for about 2 years. I am waiting for my JL so I can't comment on it yet. There does seem to be a higher then normal number of cracked JL windshields based on Forum member reports.

The TJ glass must have been thicker and more durable. My windshield took a lot of hits and no cracks in the 10 years I owned it. Lot of pitting in the glass though. The glass had tons of pitting. No cracks in the JK windshield either. I drive mostly in the City and on highways. Trucks kick up a lot of rocks. Lots of uncovered dump trucks dropping stuff too. Lots of trucks dropping rock salt also. I make it a point to stay far behind trucks if possible.

Thanks for the feedback. I've never seen a windshield crack this easily. The grille on my Jeep is clean, no paint marks. Only the two hits on the window in the pics. This one seem to just break with small gravel.

3 weeks / 1200 miles and regrettably just joined the club. Middle, bottom-up crack. Convinced it was defroster related and not a rock. Will take it to dealership to attempt to get it fixed under the warranty.

23 pages here... Pretty ridiculous @JeepCares ...

Just got back from replacing mine today. Big relief for me. Hated looking at that giant crack. 18K miles, had the JL since January 2018. Crack happened a few weeks ago.

My situation was pretty standard. No mysteries on the crack. Driving 65 mph on the highway when I heard an extremely loud bang on the windshield. Immediately had a crack about 6” long right above my steering wheel coming up from the bottom. It stayed that way for a while. But using the defrost in single digit temps most definitely exacerbated the problem. I literally watched it spread all the way to the passenger side.

In short, I’d say simple physics caused mine. Relatively flat windshield, impact at high speed, and rapid cold to hot resulting in the spread. Still sucks.. Hate that it happened. But I don’t blame Jeep. On the bright side, SafeLite has a life time warranty (excluding rock damage) on an OEM replacement that looks perfect.

Hoping I can stay out of this club for a while.
