When I'm in Phoenix, mine doesn't run that hot going 70 on the freeway. If I'm in traffic on a slower road, maybe, but it always goes down to the 190's. The oil temp will be high 190's to low 200's
Hmm dunno. Sure normal freeway mines in the lower 200’s. Not after 33 miles of non stop up hill. I’d bet your temps would be higher. Fully loaded that is.

Of course it would be higher in those conditions. Normal driving 190s for my Jeep.

Mine runs around 195 moving and gets up to as high as 222, idling. The fan WAS running when I looked, when the temp was high. Seems weird to have that much temp spread. I think it should be 195-ish all the time. But then, this is a JL so all bets are off. I was actually going to start my own thread on this question, so thanks.

I think another thing worth mentioning is auto vs manual transmission. I noticed the auto JL’s fan kicks on all the time out on the trail (and probably the road) I think it has to do with keeping the transmission cool as well. So the coolant gets a cool down too.

My fan does not kick on very often in the trail (manual trans). I imagine because there is no transmission cooler that needs airflow. So it’s sits a lot at 220 give it take.

Mine today was 205-215, outside temp here in Houston was in the 40’s, I thought that was kinda warm but believe the thermostat does not open until 225
Are you referring to coolant temp or oil temp?

My coolant temp has been as high as 225 in the heat of summer here in Houston with outside temps at 100 but rolling down the road on a super hot day it’s around 210-215

Thanks.
On my new 2.0L I saw around 220 coolant temp today climbing a hill on Hwy 215 (Vegas) which quickly cooled down to 195-200 as I started to go downhill. My oil reached 226 also on the hill. Outside temp was 105.
So I guess it is normal since all of us are seeing the same. I am wondering if the turbo runs hotter than the 3.6L?
And since it is a new 2.0L with 500 miles on it right now, I was concerned I may be running hot till I read this thread.
I am guessing the factory engine oil is synthetic too since the recommended oil for 2.0L is SAE 5W-30 Synthetic.

in Vegas, now we are into frigid 90s in the second week of September. On the same uphill highway route where I would see oil temp go up to to 226℉, I now barely reach 213℉ on the 2.0L. Ambient temperature makes a big difference.

It's possible the Direct Injection 2.0T is designed to warm up fast, run at a higher temperature to prevent deposits from forming in the combustion chamber. Port Injection engines have fuel flow to clean intakes, prevent carbon buildup , DI doesn't. The synthetic oils can deal with the higher temps needed to keep carbon at bay.

My 3.6 usually hovers around 190-196 and occasionally goes up to about 206 if I floor it. But then it drops back down within seconds. I like it better than my jk. Which would run between 215-230 most of the time.

My typical coolant temp usually stays around 200 or less. if I'm crawling around in the desert or hauling my travel trailer I've seen it get as high as 224 or so.

This is in Nevada where the outside temps can get up to 100 or more.
