Hello, first turbo. There are 2 coolant reservoirs. Do I fill these independently? They are not tied together at some point? My engine reservoir is full, but the back black one is lower. Thanks in advance

Correct, same coolant type, but separate reservoirs.

The cap has a little cut in it that you stick a flat head through to turn. Do it cold.

Point of clarification: the black reservoir in the back near the firewall is for the engine. The smaller transparent one near the grille is for the turbo.

You could just add a bit of water as well. For a little top off, water is fine. Probably best to use a distilled water to prevent adding minerals that lead to corrosion. But there's a lot of corrosion inhibiter in the coolant already.

If you were changing the coolant, of course you'd need the OEM recommended coolant, but just topping off, not so much.

Also, any of the big name coolants of the right type are fine.

Really... I always assumed it was the other way around because of their locations. Whaddya know.

Anyway, they're both necessary and both need to be checked and topped off with the same fluid so I guess it doesn't really matter until you go beyond basic maintenance.

What if you use an aftermarket coolant that will work. For example, my Jeep puked out most of the coolant back in 2021 because of those loose bolts. I went and just used the Zerex brand and it's still in there. I wonder what happens to the engine and or coolant system is not using the Mopar brand? I hear people say you need to use it but never a reason as to what happens if you use another that meets the specs.

If one flushes out the complete engine cooling system, then it is a non-issue. But you don't want to mix, OAT and HOAT, or these auto parts store, our antifreeze works in all cooling systems. Because mixing them may cause a lack of corrosion protection, plus sometimes a gel will form, plugin up the cooling system. It is best to use what the factory recommends. MOPAR OAT 50/50 Mix antifreeze.

As long as the aftermarket coolant meets spec (check your owner's manual), it's fine. You can mix different colors and brands of coolant as long as they are the same type.

Our 2.0's specify OAT (not HOAT) coolant.

Never ever add water.... only in case of extreme dire emergency.
