Mine works fine, but I miss old school slider controls. Push right for warmer, left for cooler. Didn’t have to look at a screen and it didn’t abruptly change temp. Sometimes analog > digital.

The whole auto hvac thing is why I think we're a long way from self-driving cars. You should be able to set it and forget it, but I'm always having to change a few degrees based on the sun or outside temperature. Complicated to take outside factors into account? Yes. More complicated than staying in a lane without striping in a construction zone? No.

The vehicle I had just before the Jeep purchase was a Subaru with the auto feature and it worked flawlessly. I kept it set at 65 all the time and it would clear the frost from the windshield and keep me nice and cool in the heat of the summer which ever was needed. Not the same with the Jeep.

I have to engage the defrost to clear the windshield and if I keep it on auto I have hot feet during the winter. I know heat rises, but not fast enough. It did work during last Summer with the top up keeping me cool.

My daughters Buick has the auto feature that I thought worked well. She refuses to use it. My Mother has a Chrysler and other than the seat heat turning on every time I drive it when it's just cool, it seems to work fine. She has a garage though and doesn't need to defrost very often. I dislike auto seat heaters and don't even use the seat heat on my motorcycle. Thankfully it's not auto turn on.

Subaru does a great job keeping the windshields clean. Had a rental in a snow storm in Michigan and was very happy with it. My wife has owned Acuras and Infinitis with unimpressive auto heat controls. Maybe it's time for a Lexus?

I like the auto seat heat function in the Jeep. It's nice that you can opt out of it too. Only gets used on trips since weather at home is usually above 40 degrees.

I just went from a Rubicon to a Sport. I LOVE the more basic climate control. I forgot how much I hated my Rubicon went from 60 to “Lo”. I vastly prefer the idea of setting my air temp in relation to ambient temps. I went to college in the U.P. so I’m fine in the cold, but my Wrangler would freak out below 40 and go either full heat or full non-AC cold, there was no nuance. With the new Sport, I was able to cruise around with the top down in 50 and mild heat on. My Rubicon would have freaked out and gone full heat, forcing me to turn the fan down to 1 and hope it wasn’t too much.
/n Rant over, for now.
I always have this button turned off, that way it is manual mode just like the sport.

Even with that off, mine would go by target temp. I could select “Lo, 60, 61, etc”.

I have a Sport S with the 5’ screen. Outside of the clock losing a minute every week, the interior is honestly perfect. It’s modern while still being completely functional and not overly technological.
100% agree!!!

Yeah, I just used that as the hot cold knob like I would in my older vehicles without auto. And then also manually control the AC on/of button. Certainly a little more of a hassle than just a manual operation like my old truck.

Yeah, I agree that the set temp is not the same as the blend door control. But you can spend time experimenting with the temp to make it do what you want. It just takes time and practice.

The first thing to understand is that air temp you need to set to make it the most comfortable changes. How warm or cold it is outside and whether you're in the sun or not makes a big difference. And small changes take a bit of time to settle in. Once you learn it, you can easily tweak it.

I get in and set it to LO or HI to get it close depending on what I need. Once it's in the ballpark, I tweak it to what is comfortable at that time.

Still, I'd rather have the blend door control blue to red. But not enough to give up the rest of everything else.

Probably right, 18 months and I never found that option.
It drove me nuts in cold weather.
I also can’t turn off a target temp in my wife’s truck, I thought manufacturers just didn’t like us thick blooded individuals.
As it concerns introducing needless complexity, a vehicle's HVAC controls should be off limits. My wife's Honda has touchscreen controls and the same, a-mind-of-its-own Auto function as what's in the upmarket Wranglers. Nein, danke! Give me proper analog knobs every day of the week and twice on Sunday. They always work exactly as I intend.

This. This is the HVAC design that cannot be improved upon.

(The pictured panel is exactly what I had in my K1500. My YJ had sliding levers and fewer vent positions, but I was never wanting for heat or defrost in that vehicle.)

I drive a Ford Explorer, for work. It has the auto climate control temperature settings. It is also a PITA, when at lower temps. It is either blazing hot, or too warm, when the weather is in the 40's. It is like it refuses to let the A/C turn on, to keep it at a nice 60-64 degrees inside. Always hot air.
