Finally got the JL Rubicon on the beach and when engaged front and rear lockers I heard some clicking and slight clunking! Is this normal? Sand was real soft tires down at 22lbs.

Shouldn't have been ANY binding in that scenario.

OP, you sure it wasn't the suspension making the noise? Did it go away if the lockers were off?
Didn’t see the last sentence, my bad.

Hi Sftdyna0326$,
We recommend having your dealer look into this if it continues to happen. You're welcome to send us a private message as well and we'll provide you with additional assistance.

Was the noise from when you engaged the lockers, or while driving with them engaged? When you first engage the lockers, you'll hear a few noises before the teeth lock together, but after they're on, that should be it.

The front was locked up and I was wondering if having to make a slight turn could have bound up something but the sand was so soft I couldn't imagine that being the issue. I ran ARB lockers in my old Jeep years back and when the locked you got no noise or even binding when slight turns were needed. Granted you should not really be turning hard while locked up at anything but slow speed as steering becomes difficult and the front tends to plow so I'm up on what you could due and shouldn't do. It is also my understanding this is why they restict 4hi wheeling while locked. I will need to get out there again and revisit the situation. Although being this was my first outing with our JL it appears the rumors of duratrac side walls being week is true as a piece of plexiglass actually punctured the corner of the tire! That was one expensive 20 min beach ride.

Was you traveling in a straight line or doing donuts or a figure 8 etc... ?
Slight turns in soft sand and it sounds pretty bad metal on metal. Came home put it in 4 wheel low and engadged the lockers while going straight not a peep so I tried to just slightly turn the wheel and I only got the normal bind that is associated with being locked on pavement. Also today while on the beach again the lockers had a hard time locking and I had a service lockers light but then after a few attempts it did lock up. The only variable is the beach is loaded with ruts which when turning slightly may contribute to the problem. If I'm on the hard packed sand I get binding when turning slightly but im sure that's normal.

Yeah, if it was me I’d have it checked out. I had my front axle replaced (warranty). I had a clunking noise we couldn’t find and when took diff cover off, my mechanic didn’t like how much metal shavings were in there, more than deemed normal. My noise ended up being u joints at the wheels, they replaced the axle shafts also, but I’ve since put in rcv axles.
I'm also dealing with a clicking and a clunking noise when turning while going slow. Do you have a video of yours? Here's mine:
