You should really pull the codes and see what's actually going on before randomly throwing parts at things. Might be communication related, sure, or might be a single module acting up. Hell, might be a single sensor.

Pull the codes.
Typically I agree, however oddly enough, there are never any codes, active or inactive codes stored. At one point last year they said the eve needed to flashed, did that and well, everything happened again. And generally always when it happens, it’s usually when I go to start it, is when it throws all the warnings, to the point I can’t start it or get it out of P. I typically can tell when it’s going to happen, when I get in the Jeep and P thru D are all illuminated yellow, push the button and pow all the warnings and no start. Wait a few minute (10-15) or pull negative cable for 30-60 secs and then all good for a few days.

I guarantee there are codes until you go jacking around with battery cables. If a warning light comes on, there is a stored code.

I certainly agree there should be. But there never is. Even when, I just let it sit and magically reset on its own, there’s never any stored codes. It’s weird

Plenty to choose from here. You needn't spend a lot of money for a fancy unit, either.
Do you need a special adapter to get these to plug into the jeep? I thought I read that Jeep had a weird connector and you needed an adapter?

No, our Jeeps have the standard OBD2 ports like every other vehicle since 1996. Any code reader should easily connect.

Some Wrangler-specific modules, like the Tazer device, do plug into the separate, parochial Security Gateway under the driver's side dashboard. That might be what you're thinking of.

Do not generic scanners can only read codes from the PCM and nowhere else. Need a better one to properly interrogate all the body systems. I think the SGW also prevents generic scanners from clearing codes too, but idk

The Bluetooth or wired scan tool plugs into the OBDll port on your JL.

You would be wise to ask on the forum, etc., for specific recommendations in regard to a scan tool to buy..

You need to bypass the security gateway on the JL/JT in order to make changes/clear codes with a scan tool, whether that scan tool is wired or bluetooth/wireless.

Most guys/gals, want not only to read codes.... but also to be able to clear codes. No, you will not be able to clear all codes...

Anyway, have your JL get into limp mode thanks to a thrown code and you will wish you could clear the code(s) and get under way again/get home.

With that said you would want a scan tool and what no one mentioned in this thread, you would be prudent to buy hardware that does the security gateway bypass.. As with the scan tool, ask other's what hardware to go with in regard to the security gateway bypass.

My 20+ year-old Craftsman OBD2 scanner is capable of pulling codes and clearing CELs on every vehicle we've owned, which includes my 2021 JLU. That's how, for example, I determined that one of the upstream O2 sensors required replacement. The Jeep subsequently passed PA's strict emissions inspection, for which the dealers use equipment that can dig deeper than any consumer-grade scanner that we'd have access to.

If such scanners were blocked by the Jeep's SGW, which they aren't, we'd have certainly read about it here.

Unlike with the wiTECH2 at a dealership ....Yes, a security gateway bypass is necessary/mandatory if you want to clear codes or make changes with a wired or bluetooth scan tool or aftermarket programmer.

Tazer JL Mini has a built in security gateway bypass,.... other similar competitors offerings are sold with a separate, dedicated security gateway bypass.

If you use JSCAN with a a JSCAN recommended scan tool, you must have a dedicated security gateway bypass in the mix so you can clear codes and make changes.

In closing.... for the JL/JT owner.... regardless of the scan tool or programmer you use on your JL or JT, you need a security gateway bypass in the mix if you want to do more then just read codes.
