Chapman could not let us pick up , please help

I read that Jeep has a problem with the key fob or electrical system on the grand cherokees and currently it has a stop sale order placed on it. Maybe this is the issue? Even if it's in your name I believe you have a right to refuse it, then I don't see why they can't sell to your friend
Some units of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee are under a stop-sale order because of an issue where the key fob can lose connection with the vehicle, and when the owner uses the key to get inside, the SUV becomes undrivable because it believes someone is trying to steal the SUV.

I think they would have mentioned that to the seller. I think they don't like the idea that his name is on the order and trying to sell it to some other person. If he refuses it they can sell it to whoever they want and maybe they have already. They don't have to sell it to his "mysterious" friend.

I ordered my JLRU last November at Chapman and picked up January 8 without issue.
Meanwhile I ordered GC for my friend (She could not speak English)in December. I emailed to dealer if they need my friends information at first but no reply. Then I picked up my JLRU and asked my salesman Steve in Chapment to update my friends information for GC order. Steve wrote the info down and promised will update. Now the car arrived, we are told the name is mismatched and can not let my friend pick up. The dealer do not reply my email and my friend is waiting for picking up. I do not know what to do now.
So, if the order's in your friend's name ... why can't you just go to the dealer with your friend so that they can be present and sign paperwork, but you can (presumably) translate and sort it all out? With both of you present, there shouldn't be any problem.

If the dealer did fully put the order in your name, then you have to pick it up. I completely understand why the dealer wouldn't release a customer order to a different person who isn't a) direct family or b) power of attorney. You can transfer the title to your friend later; there could be some small tax implications but that's way better than losing the car altogether.

This is an easily solvable situation, unless we're missing information here.

In a situation like this it would have been best if you took your friend to the dealer to order. You obviously can translate so you could have translated face to face. I'm sure something was lost in communication.

And you need to realize Chapman is a very busy dealer. Just because they don't answer your e-mails doesn't mean they are ignoring.

I have dealt with all three Steve's there (one is the GM) as well as Tom the owner. I've never had an issue with communication. It may not be immediate. But replies do happen.

I'll tag Tom @dealerinsider Maybe he will see this and be able to offer you a resolution.

Thanks for all replies. Firstly, there is no shady deal and also I do not know what shady deal is. I just help my friend to order, since she can not speak English and 55+ years old. At first place, I did not realize this is very important which whose name on the building sheet, but meanwhile I emailed dealer if I need to give my friend's info now or later and no reply. I then went to the dealer to pick up my wrangler a month later and mentioned my friend's GC order status and gave Steve my friends info to update. Here is what I am pissed off. They should tell me they could not update or change the info at first. Although they are busy and did not notice that email, they could tell me when I picked up my wrangler, or even gave me a call after Steve wrote it down and promised update later.

Unfortunately, it seems that you were made to believe that this wouldn't be a problem but it really is. The "sold order" was placed in your name and that cannot be updated later on to a new name. For the dealer and Stelantis, the deal is going to to look like the original person that ordered the vehicle has backed out and the vehicle is now going to be sold as a dealer stock unit. There are consequences for the dealer if they have too many sold orders being sold to people other than the original person that placed the order. You should be able to purchase it without issues since your name is tied to the order but getting it into your friends name as the original purchaser is going to be a difficult ordeal without you being on the title as well.

Shady means something sounds suspicious. Your friend is 55+ years old, living in the US, buying a brand new $40,000+ vehicle and doesn't speak any English?
I'm all about people coming here to make a better life for themselves provided they did it the right way. I have no reason to think your friend didn't and I'm very happy for her if she did.
I don't disagree with what you're saying...if they knew there would be a problem with changing the name, they should have told you then.

You might want to go back and check your emails, it’s quoted on every single one I have which includes any sort of documents such as build sheet, order sheet, quote etc

Anyway, if I know this is very important and can not be changed, I would not order under my wrangler emails. Now it is hard to tell her the truth . I know this feeling. I will be mat if waiting months and get nothing.

If she can’t use email, then she shouldn’t be ordering anything.

'Can't' or 'chooses not to'? Big difference.

Well, they're going to have to sell it to someone. I don't know why they couldn't sell it to her. Maybe not for the price previously provided, but this is no different than someone placing an order and backing out. I don't think they have to send it back. They have to sell it.

Your thread title said 'please help'. The dealership is an independently owned business and there are rules under which they must abide. No one here can help change any policies, but you've received the reasons as to why this isn't as smooth as you would have liked.

I know it's not the answer you were looking for.

Yeah, they are going to sell it off of their lot at probably MSRP or more.

That is why I help her order. I know it is some kind of my fault, I never help anyone order a car and do not have experience. Again the dealer should tell me any time before picking up

No, you guys already answer my question. I really appreciate it. Like I said, at first I thought order name is not big deal until picking up.

So by this "policy", because our current order is in my name only, the dealership can't sell it to my wife?
