Here's my solution... I started out considering a wireless CarPlay / wireless charging solution but decided that I was likely going to end up with glitchy CarPlay and slower charging.

I didn't want to take up space on my dash or block view of the displays, didn't want to block vents, didn't want to block my view of the road, and didn't want any wires dangling.

Parts:
Install:
  • Removed the back panel from the center console
  • This gave me access to the connector for the USB within the console
  • Unplugged the connector and plugged it into the Axxess USB adapter
  • Connected the Axxess Adapter to a 4' lightening cable with the female adapter
  • Ran the lightening cable under the console, up through the glove box, and behind and out through the trim around the HVAD.

This left me with no wires dangling and an easy/secure cradle with a wire that is not visible at all. CarPlay works and it charges.

I have been using this for about a year. I bought it just because everything else was so expensive and thought "what the heck, only $35 (at the time), I'll try it". It is solidly built, doesn't wobble at all. I use the phone holder that comes with it for my Valentine V1 radar detector and a RAM® Quick-Grip™ XL Phone Mount for the phone. It also let's me still use the dash cubby which is great.

I went with the Anvil Overland mount and am really pleased about it. Everything is steel and what I like about it is that it doesn't use the little extension bars from the actual mount to the device holder, so it eliminates some chance of vibration.

Also, the mounts can be placed anywhere along the full length of the bar, which goes from passenger to driver grab handle. Very solid.

I put mine on the left side on the pillar. I like it because it is at eye level so I don't need to look down when looking at maps or similar. It also doesn't block any view, as it is just covering the pillar. Also, as it is magnetic mount I just pop it on as I open the door. Also I ran constant power under the dash and up to just behind the phone so there are no cords running anywhere. This is one of my favorite mods I have done so far.

I was worried about that at first. After nearly two-years of use including Moab, and the Ouray passes and time with doors off, it has never been a problem. Phone holds rock solid. I also almost always have it charging when it is mounted. I have reached to grab the phone as I get out of the vehicle a couple times and knocked it off, the USB-C plug holds it. Overall, it has not fallen a single time. If I was out running the Baja, Best in the Desert, or King of Hammers I would not leave it there. But that is not how I use my Jeep...I figure if it can stay mounted down the right side of Top of the World, or as I try (unsuccessfully) to climb the wall at Poughkeepsie Gulch it is good enough.

The wife and I both use a Pro Clip. She loves it, I mostly like it. I wish there was more of a place I could tuck mine out of the way without having a cable everywhere. They sell cable management too but they did not stick well.

Did you loose the USB inside the console by doing this?

I've had a carmount for about 8 months and really like it.

I did loose the USB inside the console. I probably could have looked into a splitter but no longer needed the USB in the console since I had the phone mount.

Another vote for Offroam. I don’t like stuff on top of the dash, so the Offroam did the trick. Have the same in my wife’s Gladiator and she loves it.

Started using Quad Lock a few months ago. Great product(s) and customer service. Would absolutely recommend.

You do need a QL case to utilize their mounts, but I quite like the MAG Case they have. It is surprisingly thin. Their ecosystem is proprietary as far as mounts, connectors, etc. I tried using some Bulletpoint parts from a previous mount I had. Ended up getting all QL stuff; worth the couple extra $$. Also, their ball mounts are rubberized on the outside. Absolutely no slippage.

OP was wanting something not mounted on the dash; their 360 builder is a great way to create a setup however you prefer:

I like the mag charging capability while phone is mounted. Went with the "wireless charging head" instead of the "mag head" so it clicks in for extra stability.

Wife and I bought a new 4xe last week and is our first wrangler. We were a bit surprised that there wasn’t a more built in place to sit a phone so I came on here and read through the entire thread. Much like some other posters we didn’t want to have the phone be hanging from the dash or vents or grab bars…picky I know. But came up with a great solution for us. Ordered the Scosche handlebar mount and attached it to the e-brake we will rarely use. Scosche BMG2-SP HANDLEIT Pro QR Handlebar Bike Mount with 3.5” Adjustable Holder for Smartphone/Mobile Devices, Universal Clamp Mount https://a.co/d/fNv4SDj

I then put a wireless charger I already had and plugged it into the rear USB port. Then bought the carlinkit accessory to make CarPlay wireless as well, CarPlay Ai Box Wireless Android Auto CarlinKit Wireless Apple CarPlay Multimedia Box Adapter Support 4G Network/Netflix/YouTube Android 9.0 System 4G+64G Memory https://a.co/d/hubxyym
Hook up was pretty easy, only really works with one device though and no way to set priority devices. Also did convert the USB A in the middle console to USB C as recommended in some videos for consistent connection. Basesailor USB C Female to USB A Male Adapter 2Pack,Type C Charger Power Adapter for iPhone 11 12 13 Mini Pro Max,Airpods,iPad Air 4 5,Samsung Galaxy Note 10 20 S20 S21 FE Plus Ultra,Google Pixel 6 https://a.co/d/cjQvSc3

Looks and works very clean. Hope it helps others with ideas.
