I mounted my antenna on my JK on the corner, in the license plate frame. It isn't great. My buddy mounted his on a spare tire carrier mount. I'm sure it isn't much better, but it is a heck of alot better than my JK setup. On the JL, I'm looking for something like that, on the tailgate or near the spare tire mount.Good Reading here:

Just one site, but I think its the antenna here that matters:

And I do understand ground planes, but I need trail communication mainly, so its not a long distance. I do want to prevent damage to my radio though.
And/or an aftermarket metal bumper if I sort of try to see the Jeeps in his avatar.Do you have the steel bumper group?

I might be the 2nd!Hi guys from Cooltech.
How about this idea - create a mount that attaches to these two bolts in the front. Design it such that it would be attached to the driver side, with the antenna mounting closer to the front bolt, i.e. as far forward as possible.
Advantages of this location would be
Of course you would have to include longer replacement bolts (use TORX), and distancers so that the mount does not touch the chassis. Add the ability to attach a search light and you should have a winner.
- Better reception since the antenna sits higher and further removed from the chassis
- Shorter antenna cable
- Does not interfere with customization in the back, e.g. tire carrier etc
I would be your first customer!
