A second thought; I would be also investigating ongoing expenses -if it’s your intention to retain ownership for an extended time. Different states charge varying taxes on vehicle registration annually. These vary from less than a tank of gas to hundreds or thousands depending on the value or weight of the car and what state you register in.

Insurance costs also vary greatly, and are typically based on where the car is garaged (home base address). Some insurance policies also limit how much time a vehicle can be away from home, for example 6 months maximum. This is to prevent people insuring a car at a safer address while actually living/ working in a higher risk zone.

There are plenty of resources to resolve any of these issues, many of which can be found in RV (Caravan) forums. In North America there’s a large community of people living and traveling full time. In those forums all your questions will have been asked and answered many times.

@Dim It's possible. I have a friend from the UK that bought a XJ recently. He flies in a few times a year to wheel around California and Baja. He has it garaged local to the airport when he's away.

Don't know the specifics of his transaction, but he is using a friend's address for the registration. He said a lot of hoops to jump through, but he managed to do it. Good luck!

This would be something I would reach out to Andrew St Pierre White with 4xOverland. He has done a few trips over here and know he’s looking into building a Ram 2500 for a big trip or may have already. I am sure he knows how work out the process already or looked into it. Here’s his Patreon, may get a quicker response.

You can register a vehicle here as a non citizen, I have had a family do it. But they already had residents here or a business.

Hi Jim ,
thanks for this update.

The thought about this project is .... to achieve one of my biggest dream.

I remember when they launched the Jl i said ... Damn if jeep put a V8 into this one i will buy one !
they did... so i have to.

Obviously i could buy one in my own place ( i was super close but..... paying something around 145.000$ for an imported car, have to change the JL into a 2 seats to avoid to pay around 4500$ taxs each year AND beeing allowed to use it ONLY on pavel roads ( off roading is prohibited here) makes me thing that the gladiator i own here is very perfect even if the pentastar isnt the most exciting engine ...

So i explore the differents choices i could work on and 2 options were very interresting

first Dubai ... good price and almost no taxes great country nice people lots of opportunities to offroading BUT ... mostly sand sand sand and sand again....

the other option is ( in fact USA has always been my country even if im born from the wrong side of the ocean) USA... endless offroad opportunities, best people ever and i thought it definitely the place to be for a 392 . and the rental fees are so hight than if i wanna just achieve all the Jeep badges of honor trails it will cost me twice the price of the baby.

thats the idea....
