So I'm sitting in the waiting room at the dealer to get my aux battery checked and replaced under warranty. Service manager comes out and tells me they're going to have to charge me to take the aftermarket fender flare extensions off before they can get in the fender well to check the battery. I said what aftermarket extensions are you talking about and he said the ones you put on the outside of the fender flare. I said those aren't aftermarket, they come from the factory on the XR model. He says no they don't. When I was insistent that they do he said well I will have to go look that up. Just so happens there's a Rubicon XR sitting in the showroom. So I point and say right there is a Rubicon XR that has the same thing. Now go fix my fucking Jeep 😂

I think I would have said. You know what hand me my keys and move on to the next dealership.
Luckily the service advisor isn't the one actually working on your vehicle. They are just the idiot that writes the ticket. And most of them have no general automotive background to work with so they say a lot of dumb shit. No need to change dealers because of it.

I will say getting a smart service writer does make things easier but life isn't always fair.

This wasn't the service writer this was the service manager. The service writer came out and when I told him what the guy said he just shook his head 😂

This wasn't the service writer. That guy's actually pretty cool and knows a good bit because he also owns a jeep. This was the service manager

Well luckily anybody with the title "manager" at a dealer really isn't going to be working on much of anything except how to hook up with the new girl in sales and making sure his wife doesn't find out.

And I wonder why people want to pay for extended service agreements…do you really need more of that?
Because I don't want to be on the hook for a new engine the day after the factory warranty expires?
So what if the service manager is an idiot, they still have to replace the engine.

Sounds like you're lucky. I can almost guarantee the dealers around me would take one look and deny anything. Then refer me to sales to try to sell me another.

That's a priceless (though sad) story. But really I just wanted to chime in and say "Nice looking Jeep." ;)
