hello guys,
i was getting ready for desert trip for one week, where all the sudden i saw oil underneath the car...i was oh my god not now.....i don't want to wast a single hour getting the jl fixed, everyone is heading to the camp.
there was an oil leak from the rear main seal, it last for one week and now its stopped. can it be from overfilling !!!.
while i was in the desert i kept an eye on the oil level plus carried 1 liter of oil incase of emergency :) but did not use it at all.

What engine? If 3.6 did you check the oil cooler? It can run down the block past the rear main.

It’s a Jeep. It was just marking it’s territory?. Seriously though dealerships have a nasty habit of overfilling these things (or at least the use to). That MAYhave been the issue.. I’d clean it up and then keep a close eye on oil levels for a while. If no other issue I wouldn’t worry about it. Also check your other fluid to be sure it’s not something other than engine oil.

Had a similar issue with my previous Jeep, '13 3.6 w6 speed auto. Was out in the desert on vacation, drove it from Florida to Flagstaff, did some wheeling, drove it to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up, all good. Then drove from Flagstaff to Page Utah, unloaded the Jeep into the AirBnB, and when we went back out to go to dinner, there was a small, fresh oil puddle underneath, Unable to find the source, I was able to see it was a tad low on the dipstick. Got oil at Walmart, added the next morning to full, carried on and hoped. It worked, no more leak, no more oil loss.
I had already made the decision to get out of that Jeep and into the one I have no, so I didn't pursue it further (other than getting an oil/filter change on return). No idea what happened and why. I figured it had something to do with the steep uphill climb that day, and that the Jeep lived at 20' sea level, we were at 8-9 thousand feet, and that that may have contributed.
Good Luck!

My 2022 Willys is a 3.6 and the oil filter and cooler runs under the intake. If it is leaking it will pool in the valley and run out the back. The seals can leak and you can not see it with a flash light because the cooler part is covered. You can get an inspection scope in to the valley and see if any oil is pooling. It would pool towards the rear.

Good thing is it should be covered under warranty. If it is a rear main seal or the oil filter cooler housing.

99.9% of owners thinking they have a "rear main seal" leak is a leaking oil cooler. You can normally look in the valley of the motor at the base of the oil filter housing and see standing oil.
