Is it just me or other club members going through their cabin air filters unusually fast? I’ve gone through 4 these things since new. My driving mainly is 80+% on paved roads. It just seems like the Jeep air intake system loves filtering through the bad air. Either this system is highly effective or I have additional holes in my ducting. One thing that tipped me as to the cabin air filter being plugged is I had diminished air flow at the vents and sure enough the filter was clogged and black.

Most of the 3rd-party manufacturers recommend changing your cabin filter at least once a year (for normal highway driving), so going through 4 of them with some off-road driving since 2019 or 2020 really doesn't seem too crazy.

Too soon to tell how well my Jeep will fare, but with my last vehicle, I didn't change out the factory filter until 8 full years after I bought it. Kept my blower on max and recirculate constantly and the filter really didn't look dirty at all for some reason (and had less dust on the dash compared to my JL).

7,000 miles after I purchased my brand new 19 JL I thought something was wrong with the AC until I pulled the cabin filter and it was caked with dog hair and dust. I knew it was the right vehicle for our family (me/wife and 2 dogs) at that point.

I bought a K&N cabin air filter (I use paper filters for the engine air filter) and haven’t looked back. Works well and is easy enough to clean. I ended up doing the same with our 21 JLUR

Well this is what I mean I can’t remember changing the filters on any of my other trucks over the years. As Covid made me more aware of personal hygiene, owning the Jeep has made more aware of clean interior air. ??

I purchased 2 CAF today at the dealership cheaper than any independent parts store in my area. Independents wanted $35 each plus taxes. The dealership was $19 plus taxes. So I bought 2. Anyone consider washing cleaning the pleated PET polyester media? I saved my dirty one and I’m going to gently wash it and see how it fairs. It should hold out and clean well.

Maybe not enough to stop a virus, but I've been wanting to try out a PM2.5 cabin filter to possibly help keep some of the smoke smell from getting inside (long rural commute and someone's always burning branches, leaves, garbage, whatever).

The only 2 I've found so far that advertise this rating for the JL are FreshenOPT in Canada (LINK) and AirTechnik (LINK, but their yellow PM2.5 version isn't available just yet for the JL/JT).

If you're planning on washing your cabin filter, you might want to consider getting the K&N reusable one (LINK), though they're a little pricey at $80 plus $22 for their cleaning/refresher solutions, and I'm doubtful that they can filter as well as OEM or other disposable filters.

Maybe knocking the dust off and then blowing compressed air from the clean side a few times a year might help extend the OEM lifespan?

They are cheap enough that I replace it every 6 months.

At 22,000 mi mine basically looks like new. Though it's only been used for about 4 months total over the last year and a half. January and February 2022 and 2023. Other than that I never use air conditioning or heating. If you're cold, just roll your windows up, if you're too hot, take your doors off. Fighting to have a cold vehicle in Texas is a lost cause. However when I do replace mine I plan on putting in a K&N cabin air filter. Because it'll last a lifetime of the vehicle. Especially for someone like me.

You can find the washable filters online and just reuse them. At least for my 2016, which was exposed to more dust and dirt, I did that for my air intake also. Another option is to make your own out of filter stock.

This doesn’t work from where I’m from unless you like frostbite and being uncomfortable. Weather here can range from October thru April well below freezing. Between May and September we got heat like Texas. Let me know anytime you would like to experience it ??

I think pollens and humidity have the most detrimental effects on these cabin filters. Dirt doesn't seem to matter much if it's dry.

I have been through four cabin filters this year. In all fairness, we were off roading in the desert four to six times a week in the south west and Mexico this year.

At 14k mikes on my 2022 Rubi. I have replaced the cab filter 3x. Today was the third time.

I never noticed a decrease in air flow or any funky odors. So I would not have changed due to issues but I have been living in the desert long enough to know it’s time to check up on it. I keep two filters in reserve at home.

Went camping in the mountains yesterday so I figure it’s time to check filters when I got home.

On a single off road trip I can easily plug up a new filter so mileage will always vary. This
was after one 8 hr day in the Mojave desert
