after running Used Oil analysis before and after using K&Ns, i'll never use one on any engine i care about again. the amount of Silica (read: sand) found in my oil when running a properly maintained K&N was atrocious.

K&Ns apparently may improve airflow, but do a very poor job of filtration.
This is concerning. I will do an oil analysis, but I do not have a baseline / "before" K&N :(

Just a point of clarification, I use the K&N washable filter in my cabin air filter, not my airbox..... appreciate the heads up though....

This thread reminded me I need to clean mine so yesterday I did, it was nasty not that level. Then the wait for it to dry and re-oil it. K&N it was worth the money especially since I have dust and pollen to deal with. Then on a drive went over 100,000 miles.
On engine air filter I still use paper one. But have K&N engine air filters in my other Jeeps. Most of the time I only add more oil to them and if really nasty do I clean them.
My Wrangler Unlimited 05 is over 256000 miles running a K&N oil analysis showing good but I always run synthetic oil since new now some oil changes are not at 3000-5000 miles but I've kept it under 10000 miles. But with the new information on them I don't recommend as hearty.

How often should one change the cabin filter?
I change ours once a year, basically after the yellow pine pollen season ends in May. It's amazing how nasty they get from that pollen.

I never change mine. Well, ok, I did once. I put in a K&N cabin air filter. Now I just clean it with every oil change

I think a reusable cabin filter would be a good idea. I recently checked my filter. It was just a little dusty. A used compressed air to clean it up and put it back in.

Yes. I use and recommend this filter. Coincidentally, my latest purchase just arrived a few days ago. Normally ~$45, but my patience paid off and I snagged it on sale.

N.B.: It is a bit stiffer than the regular filters, and may be a bit dodgy to insert correctly in its holder. Just work slowly and carefully.
