I've had my JL for about 4 months and love it!

I noticed the past couple of weeks, when I start her up and turn on the air (A/C, etc.), that I started coughing. At first, I figured it was all of the pollen in the air. Plus it has rained for over a dozen Saturdays (this past Saturday was sunny).

This morning, I figured I would change the engine air filter. I was also told to check/replace the cabin air filter. Glad I did both! I don't think the cabin air filter has ever been replaced! 🤦

Same with mine when I checked 2 months ago, 2019 JL that I bought in March this year.
That convinced me to check my 2020 Explorer and 2020 F-450, both of which had never been changed. But they are low mileage

It's true, they should be changed regularly. Right after the big pollen/cottonwood season is usually a good time. The pollen gets into those things and can really stink.

Pro-tip: Turn the HVAC completely off when driving dusty trail conditions if you can.

Honestly, the thing that had me check the filter? I had my truck at the dealer for my last no charge oil change (diesel, not exactly a cheap service). The rep offered to service my cabin air filter for $190. 'No thanks, I do it myself'. So I did when I got home. All three filters totaled $42

When one has a cabin air filter in their Wrangler, one is better off to run your a/c in re-circulate mode. This way, your filter will last a lot longer.

From the savvy Arizona side. On really hot days (relatively speaking), run normal outside air A/C nearly HI fan speed for about 5 minutes, with either rear and/or passenger/rear side windows down 1/2 - 1". This will blow out really hot air from seats and roof. Then switch to recirc and close all windows. This will cool the cabin down quicker. Use dash Vents only, not a HI/LO vent mix.

Manopause?
Maybe? 😅

Sometimes I just get in a mood where I want a lot of fresh air, but don't wanna take off the doors/top. I do the same thing in the winter sometimes. Windows rolled down, heated seats on and the heater cranked full blast.

And sometimes I'll do that and then stick the HVAC system on recirculate, just for lulz. The pure American freedom of using all of your excess luxuries all at once!

I apologize in advance if you misconstrued my post as an affront to your liberties.
I (and others) were merely offering our suggestions to the original poster for the most efficient method of cooling the jeep interior quickly.
It's mostly older guys here in the forum, and I would never tell anyone what to do with their jeep. I understand completely, your jeep = you do what you want with it/to it.

Both air filters are cheap compared to a tank of gas. And easy to change. I do both at intervals or after especially dusty driving.

No worries! It was indeed some good advice, and I'm just a bit of a weirdo/smart-ass at times.

Most of the time, I really hate using my A/C, but even with manual settings my JL's HVAC system will still override my wishes and turn the compressor on if my temp setting isn't cranked well above outside ambient temps (iirc, the compressor fan helps to keep the engine temps down). Trying to get pure unheated/uncooled fresh air through the vents is near-impossible in this vehicle for some reason and it drives me nuts sometimes.

Unless it's 90°F+ or insanely humid like this past week, I usually just like to cruise around with my windows cracked a few inches and the vents blowing fresh air.
