Hello Heathans,

I need some help.

First, my build plans and goals for my use:

I have a 2024 JLU Rubicon X, so I have the "XR" package. I do not want to lift it, but I do want to maximize travel and not planning on tires larger that 35".

My plans: Trim front bump tubes and add foam bumps or hydraulic bumps, adjust rear bumps, short bodied long travel shocks, MetaCloak drop brackets front and rear. If I feel the need, adjustable front lowers and 1.5" JKS springs.

My use: I use this as my daily and 95% of use is normal driving and my goal is the best street ride/performance while still gaining offroad capability. 5% snow and mild offroad, but I need it to do it's job that 5% of the time.
I was planning on Bilstein 8100 DSA shocks, but the don't offer anything with a short enough body for improved uptravel, so I'm going to go with Fox 2.5 Performance Elite, but need help with which length.

For the front the:
1.5" lift shock lengths are 15.83" compressed and 25.50" extended>
2"-3" lift shocks are 16.34" compressed and 26.51" extended.

Stock are 17.25" compressed and 23.50" extended.

1.5" allows 1.42" more compression than stock
2"-3" allows .91 more compression than stock.

My question, is there enough fender clearance with 35s to allow another 1.42" of compression and if not is it more than .91".

I understand not all 35s are created equally, but in general.

Thanks in advance. Let the games begin,
Gary, your favorite forum asshole

In all seriousness, if the stock fenders don't clear full bump on the 1.5" shocks, a fender chop likely will get you the extra up travel.

If you’re gonna go this route I highly suggest going with Fox or king bumps. Fox have a slight edge on kings with the ifp and they really do help you flex a lot. The kings work really as well. And they are pretty easy to rebuild yourself.

Also given the bilsten budget. Maybe a set of take off Mojave shocks are up your alley. You should cycle your suspension and just confirm you could run that shorter shock, I noticed with my spring set up that I wasn’t even using the last inch of my shocks so I decided just to extend my air bump a little like 1/2 inch and now I’m running Fox 3.0’s for the 4-6 in lift at the exact same ride hight and only lost .5 of and inch of up travel but gained nearly 4 inches travel

I really don't want to if I don't have too. I'm also hoping to build a guide for people that want to stay as stock as possible, but squeeze the most they can out of the XR suspension. I thought I saw a thread with a video of how to clearance as much as possible with the stock liners, but I'm either dreaming or it's not a thing.

@shagles just edited with this.

I've seen where someone gutted the inside of the fenders while leaving the edges so it didn't look like it was chopped. With more offset wheels, you likely need the edges trimmed too though, so may be useful to you.

You can always grab a small spacer like under 1/2in and you should be fine to clear 35’s

I cycle them fine with a 1inch lift on a sport.

doesn’t hurt to try 🤷🏽‍♂️

mainly cause I have nothing to add to the discussion here. Your best bet is do just do it and throw money at the problem till its what you want. Doesnt seem to be something anyone else had done before.

I don't recommend the DB3 on your setup. They are not like the alignment brackets up front and alter the geometry for a 3.5" and taller suspension as well as requiring adjustable arms. On that 1.5" kit you may only gain .5-1" and would not need much correction.

Thinking on it a bit more, chop your bump stops and install something that allows more up travel, suck it up and chop your fenders, install the motobilt high clearance fender liners, and put some 8100s on there that allow you to utilize the travel you are looking for. To find that remove the springs and shocks and measure what you realistically can get after you install the different bumps. If you want more articulation put some Rock Krawler adventure x control arms on there.
