Ugh. After an 8 month wait for my order which just arrived in March, my Besttop soft top was already sliced into. Nothing was taken because anything was in the locked glove box or my Tuffy console lockbox (kudos to them).

Anyone know what I’ll be in for here? How hard is it to buy just a window for the besttop trektop? I reached out to them but with it being a weekend I’m just hoping to see if anyone here has an idea, and to share my pain.

Thank god it wasn’t the half door uppers, because I’ve heard those are unobtanium

I am 78 and at 21 I bought a new Olds Super 88 rag top. 3 months later I had her all locked up.Yep, someone slashed the top over the driver's seat 3 feet long to steal my $3 flashlight. I have owned 45 at least soft top cars Jeeps after that. Never again did I lock a ragg top. If the insurance asks if it was locked the correct answer is ''not when I came back out'' of where ever.

I can't believe some have the attitude of leaving it unlocked. Do you do the same thing at home? Thieves don't deserve oxygen.

Quick update here -- I never heard back from @Bestop in my emails. Ended up spending ~1hr on hold to place an order, only to learn it was backordered. Estimated as 6-8 weeks. Currently at 6 weeks, but the downside is I can't get any updates on timeline unfortunately - I spent 85 minutes on hold when trying to check, with an estimate of "2-20 minutes wait". Edit: Finally got a hold of them, sounds like it'll be closer to 9 weeks (coming in on their side on the 12th, going through QA, and shipping out)

I think my bestop is great, but the post-purchase support leaves something to be desired... you can't ALWAYS be experiencing higher than normal call volume, all day, every day.

Yeah, I was able to duct tape it up for now.

Leaving it unlocked I’m torn on. I’d be worried someone would camp in it overnight and it would stink to high heaven. I’ve also heard if the vehicle is stolen while unlocked it isn’t covered, but I’m not sure how anyone would know. Certainly will be tempted if it happens again….
I had a car broken into once and until I showed the police damage done to the car from being broken into they would not even make a report. They were like if it was unlocked anything taken was just on me for having it unlocked and they don't make theft reports unless the car is locked.

Keep all valuables locked away or better yet, out of the vehicle. I always leave softops unlocked. I don't leave items in my vehicles that i wouldn't want stolen. Simple. Its alot easier to cut a window then break a lock. Whats the difference to having top down, or the windows down, or the doors off from having the doors unlocked?

Sorry to hear!! If they only knew how easy it is to pop the window out.
If it’s the window that came with your jeep Bestop will most likely send you to Jeep parts dept to replace. I had my side window blow out on freeway and when I called Bestop to order a replacement that’s what they did…sent me to jeep. I had to order replacement from jeep parts dept. with taxes cost me $475 and insurance reimbursed me.
Was that for just one of the soft top windows or all three?

I bought an entire replacement premium soft top off Facebook Marketplace for $500. The soft top had started separating from the metal stays.

Even when I have the doors off and soft top down I lock the doors, which is just the tailgate. I keep nothing of value in the Jeep, but if some miscreant tried to get into the rear storage I should be covered.

Yep had my JK hardtop and windows sliced in Albuquerque.. Cops said they are s busy with car break-ins it took 2 hours for them to come and get a report.. They even said stay away from that city if you can avoid it. Such a shame that a lovely city like that has been over run with car thieves..I now have a hardtop ...
I was driving back from a 10-day camping trip in Colorado last summer with the wife and our two daughters pulling our trailer. I drove 815 miles straight to avoid spending the night in Albuquerque due to the high crime rate. I didn't want to risk the Jeep or the trailer in that city.

Our '88 YJ with a soft top didn't even have locks installed in the doors - AMC figured it was a waste of money!

@PandaJL I'm sorry to hear your wait time was so long when you called CS, I'm glad you got in touch with them though. I know it doesn't seem possible to have higher than normal call volumes, all day, every day however during busy season, which usually starts about March/April and goes until October-ish, wait times are higher, longer and unfortunately to be expected. Its been like this since covid hit actually, I've never seen it so busy in CS during busy season until covid and every year after and I've been with Bestop for 14 years.
You're welcome to email me if you need a quicker update on your order status, I'm happy to help, [email protected]. Again, my apologies for any inconvenience.

Telling people to leave their doors unlocked to let low life criminals rummage through their vehicles is BS. It's like giving in to a misbehaving kid because it's easier. Forget that. I would not live somewhere that has that mentality. Either the police or I would be catching those low life criminals and they better hope it's the police catching them lol....
It’s like in 1982, my truck got broken into at my parents house. 5 other vehicles were broken into that night. My parents still live there but should have moved. Yet no other break ins to this day. It could happen again though. They need to move.

Sorry this happened...I literally chose a hard top because of all the soft top slice in's I have been told about over the years.

Still wish I had a soft top!
Then when they bust the window in that hard top, it’ll be super happy fun time cleaning that up. Plus, a year down the road when you run your hand across the floor and get a cut in your hand, along with a sliver of glass in it, even more fun.

Sorry for delay in replying. But that was for one panel. The left side.
