You can clear the pop up by turning the radio off and back on. I've been doing it for over a month now
Conjecture so far is that the error occurs when GPS signal is lost. Mine failed in my garage, so I halfway believe it…

When/if I’m ever offered another OTA update I’ll be sure to have a clear view of the sky. I did have a successful update back in 2018, and that one was done while in a supermarket parking lot. ?‍♂

It's not the signal. The update is already downloaded before installation begins.

The update failing is not really the issue. Firmware updates fail all the time. It's the fact that it cannot roll back to a working state and bricks our devices.

Yes, it’s already downloaded (or on USB), but my guess is it tries to phone home or get location data or something then dies. Terribly written software! The fact the the “fix” is hardware replacement baffles me.

Well, maybe UConnect 5 (based on Android) will be better, not that it helps us. I can say that I had three trouble free years until this debacle, and hope that the replacement unit gives me more than that. ?‍♂

I had to wait weeks for each of my 2 replacement 8.4" head units. I would not get too happy when yours finally gets in either. It will most likely be a used refurbished unit. It also might not fix the problem. I had the original unit and TWO replacement radios, so 3 total. Guess what happened after radio #3? It still had problems. That was 4 weeks or so ago. Supposedly there has been a update. Hopefully that fixes the problem. I am not so confident based on their track record.

I wonder if its a over heating issue with the head unit? The screen can get pretty warm. I have also seen units with delaminated screens? Or possibly faulty GPS antennas, defective back up cameras, or wiring?

It's been over 2 months waiting for my first replacement.

Have you been in contact with Jeep Waves or Jeep Cares? They were very good about keeping me updated. They seem to be very understanding also. Ask them for a free service contract or extended warranty for your inconvenience. You have a good chance to get it.

The aircard needs to work for the update to complete. If the aircard is toast, the update fails, the software attempts to restore to the previous version and fails because, again, the aircard is toast. Yeah, whatever process they use for updating this software is utter garbage.

If the aircard was broken it would not be able to download the update to begin with, or get notified that there was an update, or be able to pull the weather data etc. My Radio was perfectly functional before the "update".

Same. ?‍♂

My new radio came with version 34.x. It was perfect until last night when it rebooted itself twice in a row. My old one would also do that. I’ve narrowed it down to:

Park and turn off vehicle
Run a quick errand (my guess is radio doesn’t enter full sleep)
Start vehicle and immediately shift into reverse (I have a manual, if that matters)

Screen will freeze or turn blue. After a long time (two minutes?) it reboots. It’s unresponsive before and after the reboot, but music plays whatever satellite channel I was on. A minute later it reboots and is fine afterwards.

Only happens every once in a while. Super annoying.

Mine did all of that and more. Mine locked up and would not power off sometimes. The only way to turn off the radio was to pull the radio fuse under the hood. Had 2 replacement head units and the problems were still not fixed. They kept saying a software update was on the way.

You can download updates from the web and install them via USB. Doing it this way with a dead aircard is a guaranteed failure and bricking.

Sure, maybe. But none of us here did that, I don't think. We all got the OTA update and woke up to a white screen.

My VIN has shown this “available update” since 2018. I surpassed that version after the first OTA update during summer 2018. Useless site.

Anyone who wants to spend $99 on a map update will get the latest 39.6 software version.
