About a month ago I installed a bolt hood lock on my 24’. Since the grill is re-designed they supplied a template to cut away parts of the grille to accommodate for the key. I hate the look. The gap is way too big, people have asked if it’s a charging port ?.

Before buying a new insert to experiment on I was curious if anyone cut away less than the recommended pieces? if so can you supply some pictures. Or if anyone has other ideas or suggestions.

I have an older grille, but I definitely cut less of it than the template suggested when I installed my Bolt.

Looks ok to me. As long as there are no issues with the key turning. I guess I’m buying a new insert. Ty

No issues with the key. Initially I had two plastic “prongs“ remaining below the rubber cover, but they interfered with the cover.

As you can see above, I left my two prongs. It increases airflow.

I've always considered that Stellantis or some after market company should devise some method to lock the hood, and release the latch from the inside of the cabin, just like other passenger vehicles.....
yeah, make sure you lock the doors to your jeep so they cant get in to pop the hood :CWL:

And then put a lock on the latch inside the cabin?

I wouldn't buy a new insert, your grille is ruined.

Since both our Jeeps are black, I'll do you a favor and buy that ruined redesigned grille for $100 and you can just get a completely new one. I'm really helping you out here.

The bolt was an easier install and less expensive option. I’ve seen some people talk about Lastfit, https://a.co/d/7AApwJL

I was in a rush to install it and had limited time. I should have planned it out better. I just started hacking away following the template. By the time I was done the hole was enormous.

Since you’re now buying a new grille insert (btw, it’s the whole span of the grille), why not just buy the one designed for the Mopar hood lock?

I have one on order for the 2024 grille I’m going to install on my 2019.

For those who cut up their 2018-2023 grilles, Mopar has an easy to replace, centre piece with a cutout for their lock.

I only did a quick search but it doesn’t look like they make that template for the 2024 grille.

I may reach out to Bolt, I’m not sure it will get me anywhere but based on the template they provide you could easily access the lock and only cut 1/2 of what they show. At the very least maybe they will consider adjusting it for future buyers.
