I bought a hitch extender to get past the back tire....is that our only option as of now?

I have the Kuat swing option. About the same as the Yakima. I used a spare tire relocation kit to give enough clearance to use the Kuat without needing a hitch extension. Sits pretty tight to the Jeep now. Pretty easy to deal with and definitely heavy duty.

I didn’t need to use an extension on the Yakima. I was a little worried if the latch was going to clear the 35’s but it worked out perfect.

My tire (295/70/17 33.3”) wouldn’t go over the Kuat but I have a Sahara so your Rubi may be a bit different on bumper height or the Kuat sits higher. I was torn between the Yakima and Kuat but I have a Kuat rack so I just went with it. Either seem to be like great solutions.

[edit] actually, looking at your pics, the Yakima has a lower profile. Would’ve saved myself some trouble had I gone with it.

The only thing I don’t care for about it (and it’s more the Thule rack I have) is it sticks out a LONG way behind the jeep.

mopar bike rack.jpg

I'm planning on using my old Mopar bike rack, as soon as I figure out how to relocate the backup camera (uses the same place, mounts to the spare through the center of the wheel on an adapter plate). The nice thing about the Mopar rack is that it keeps your receiver hitch free (if you even have one), and everything quickly and easily swings out of the way when you need to get in and out of the back of your Jeep.

spare tire mount for 2 bikes $79

as mounted on my JL Rubicon over spare tire cover above.

Quadratec catalog snapshot, I hooked the botton straps to gate lower edge (not bumper as shown) so gate swings open with it all attached.

I have two bikes (three as my young son gets older) to carry. I don't trust the weight on the tire carrier as it would put it above spec (85lbs including spare).

Had welder extended the stinger 2 1/2" on my Thule Vertex 4 Bike. Nice and compact, only draw back is the hatch will only open about 2'

Will a bike on the back interfere with the blind spot monitor and make it beep every time you chance lanes?
