Anyone have experience with the Ronin 50 cal bullet antenna? Specifically, I didn’t realize how hard it is to remove once on due to the “anti theft” compound on the threads ... anyone know of good method to remove?

I was thinking about getting this one, why do you want to remove it having issues?

For me, I always remove the antenna for any non-touchless car wash. I bought an AntennaX 21” because I like to use the antenna as a height reference, but it never stayed tight, always coming loose and wobbling in the the screw hole. I didn’t want to loc-tite it because I needed to remove it. Had one broken off on my F-150....:swear::angry: and it was a PITA to replace the entire cable mount. Never again.

I ordered this (below) a week ago and no issues like I had with the AntennaX.

Try a strap wrench. It could need some heat to loosen loc-tite.

I went with antennaX 24 inch, IMO 13 inch is a little bit too short.

Having issues when going through car washes as the stock antenna gets whipped around. Is there a replacement antenna that is shorter but delivers same or better reception?
The actual answer to your question is going to be no. A physically shorter antenna will not deliver better reception. For example, a full wave antenna at 100MHz is 3 meters long. When you shorten the antenna, you're making a trade-off. Don't used brushed car washes would be the best solution, it's far better for your paint, and won't whip around your antenna, either.

Shorter = worse reception. There's not much way around this. It's how RF radiation works in the FM band. Any aftermarket antenna you use will perform worse. That's not to say it won't perform good enough, but it won't perform like factory.

Also, from my experience the stubby antennas are far less rugged. The factory antenna is tough and can take a real beating. The aftermarket stubby antennas will crack and break at the base eventually. I even had a "rubber duckie" style FM antenna snap off during a winter storm one year. Never again...

Waste of money.

I went with this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZJNICI0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It comes up to about 1/2 of the height of the windshield glass and I’ve noticed no loss of radio reception whatsoever. I thought about a rubber one but read too many sorties about them flopping at highway speeds and getting brittle and cracking after a few years.
Can you post a pic of this antenna installed on your Jeep? I would like to see the difference between this option and the 24" AntennaX CB style setup others here are running. Thanks
