Forgot to mention that while studdering at idle, I got the message “ start stop unavailable. Service start stop system”

You mean "shuddering"?
It may be possible that the relay in your fuse box could have become loose because of the shuddering. They may be two separate issues otherwise. The shuddering is more serious issue in my opinion.

My JLU Sahara is in the shop after 2 days of ownership for similar start/stop issue. Mine would shudder real bad at idle and would even shudder at freeway speed. Disabling with the the dash button made no difference. Dealer says it’s a problem with aux battery but I have my doubts. Hope to have an update today.
Hi Desert Dog,
If you find you need any additional assistance while working with your dealer, we would be more than happy to help as well. Please feel free to send our team a private message as well if you have not already.

couple days ago i got the same message "start/stop unavailable", took my jeep to the dealer this morning around 9am and picked it back up the same day. The problem was fixed and now its running good as new, they say it was due to a loose battery terminal.

Were you always getting this message I guess? Mine comes on after a few start/stops.

Didn’t get a chance to update on Friday but here it is.
Because our Jeep was so new and because this was our 3rd JL we tried to purchase, the first 2 had different problems, we involved our sales manager when bringing in Jeep #3 for service after 2 days of ownership.
For the record the dealer has been very accommodating as the problems are purely Jeep quality related.

Anyhow, got a call from sales manager that the shuddering while driving and the cause of “service start stop system” was due to bad aux battery. However, when looking over paperwork for serve details it states that there was “no issue with Start Stop system; see advisor for proper operation.” Typical sales whitewashing of a problem.

Next line said there was a check engine light Present. (I never had a check engine light come on). I don’t recall the fault code, but the service notes said “spark plug was pulled and found to be fouled with oil real bad. Performed compression test - good. Replaced spark plug - test drove good no check engine light”

Spark plug fouled with oil real bad with less than a 100 miles on it!!! Very disturbing!!

Dealer was willing to roll back the sale and we are trying to work out another deal.

What went wrong with the first two JL's?

Working a deal on a 4th replacement JL is a little mind blowing.

My battery is good. The problem is a bad relay. Part is being ordered and will be received in a few days.
My part arrived and was replaced.
I drove the car to work and on the 6th stop when it started, I got the alert to service start/stop back.
Called the service advisor, and he asked to bring the Jeep back for them to diagnose the problem in detail. On the way to the dealership, I counted again the number of stops, and again on starting after the 6th stop, got the error.
So somehow, the 6th stop is the where it gets jinxed. I reported my observations to the security advisor and he noted it.

They gave me a rental for two days.

You got that right! Seriously has me doubting if I should even do another deal until next model year.

The issues with the other two were comparatively more minor. The first deal was killed due to a bad whistle noise coming from drivers door near the dash. 2nd deal was killed because I was unable to start the vehicle immediately after getting it home. Push button start had no response although the dash message said “press brake+start button to start” along with the gear shift display for PRND was illuminated also. They both stayed on for 2 days straight with no response form start button until they towed it out of my driveway. Asking later they said it was the Aux battery then a different time they said they cut a wire removing the dealer installed security system. I even had 2 techs checking it out in my driveway on Memorial Day trying to figure it out. Not sure which line of BS to believe.

During my many conversations with sales manager and I concluded that they have many issues with the Aux battery and/or start stop system.

For the record, this is not a dealer issue as they have been very proactive in trying to do right and get me into a new JL. Obviously as they took back 2 vehicles that I drove off the lot.

Not sure where I stand with a new one just yet. Been a crazy busy week and playing a lot of phone tag with a dealer executive.

I get the ESS warning after hard acceleration, and it was followed up a CEL. Had it scanned his morning, and was an engine misfire. Tried again at lunch, and same thing. I'm bringing it in this afternoon for them to check it out

Service Start/Stop problem is fixed

Here is the diagnosis and fix:
"Performed a resistance test on circuit T760, found that the circuit test 'out of limits". Inspected wire harness and found broken T760 circuit wire causing to have an open. Performed wire repair by soldering and heat shrink wrapping. Test drove the vehicle and no further problems found at this time".

Just got mine back from the dealer, after they replaced a faulty ignition coil, which they diagnosed as causing the misfire, which is causing the engine start stop error.

However, as soon as I gave it heavy acceleration, I get the ESS error, and a flashing CEL. Back to the dealer again Monday.

Pretty frustrating. But the dealer has been easy to work with.

No. I first noticed it after 5+ hours of mild off-roading.
