Replacing the main battery in my 18 and even after doing the fuse/ground cable bypass still have the stop start unavailable; service system message at start up.
Unfortunately when re installing the battery hold down the bolt snapped in the cold temps as it was being torqued in. It was bent at factory( also found a rusty torq bit in the battery tray!)
So- question- what can be done to secure the battery without the side bolt access?
Drill it out? Maybe a strap down system across middle? With the H7 size, not much room on the ends for the universal hook trays- but I’m not sure how that would even work..
Thanks for your advice

How quickly do you need to fix it? You might be able to drill through the sides of the plastic tray and make two holes to install those J-hooks and upper bracket from the auto parts store. If you can't rig that to work then you might want to replace the tray instead of drilling and tapping the broken bolt. It's been a few years since I had my battery out, does that bolt thread into a clip or a nut that's molded into the tray?

Not urgent- the battery has 2 points of hold down on the tray itself- towards the rear and drivers side. The bracket side(on pass side) is to snug it up. However in a pinch, you can flip the bracket 90 and there are 2 slots which align with tabs in the tray. While it’s not super tight, it does seem to hold the battery under the aforementioned 2 tabs.
long term- find a universal tray that will sit into existing factory tray utilizing 2 of 3 of the fender well bolts. Tie down battery from side vs end.

If you want it right. Order new tray and bolts might take a week or two but worth it
