Here's the post about the Metra adapters, but depending on which factory system you have and whether or not you are upgrading all the speakers will determine if you want positive or negative polarity. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...r-harness-polarity-updated.49506/post-1091155
Thank you!! All I wanna do is replace the dash 3.5’s with the Infinity tweeters (on my JL with 7” non-alpine system), as you and several others have suggested. Then do the 6.5’s in the SB at a later time. Although you mentioned previously that putting 3.5 3032’s in the SB with the tweeters in the upper dash would be a good combo also. Do you think going to coax 6.5’s is the SB is the best way to go now?

Also, you mentioned getting the entire system (factory speakers and aftermarket) on the same polarity/phase but I missed how you did that? If you fix the polarity of the aftermarket speakers that still leaves the factory ones out of phase, correct?

With the non-alpine system, just use the Metra adapters as is to maintain consistency with the negative polarity of the remaining factory speakers. It's discussed here https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/base-system-speaker-upgrade.75015/post-2165887

Tweeters in the dash first, followed by 6.5s in the soundbar later is the implentation order I would reccomend. 3032s in the soundbar is a good option for someone that already has the 3032s in the upper dash and is replacing them with tweeters, or someone that doesn't want to pay for the adapters needed for 6.5s in the sound bar.

Thanks so much!!

Would there be a concern about frying the factory head unit by lowering the ohms from 8 to 3 using the infinity tweeters? Or is it ok because they’re still powered in conjunction with the lower dash 4’s?

In your diagram it shows installing a crossover or blocker… did you install one or think one should be installed when replacing the 3.5 with a tweeter?

I always us the crossovers/blockers provided by the manufacturer and those are what is depicted in the diagram. The crossovers/blockers block power (amps) from going to the speaker at frequencies that the speaker can't reproduce anyway.

You are correct that being in parallel with the factory 4 ohm speakers reduces the impact of the 3 ohm Infinitys. The combined resistance of parallel 8 and 4 ohm speakers is 2.67 ohms and the combined resistance of 3 and 4 ohm speakers is 1.7 ohms, so that means there's about a 1/3 increase in the amps used to provide equivalent power to the Infinitys. But I doubt that the factory tweeters are as efficient as the Infinitys, so that means the Infiniys need less power to produce the same level of sound.

Also, the difference in resistance only applies to the frequencies that are not blocked by the crossover/blocker, the blocked lower frequencies see the full 4 ohms of the factory speaker. And an increase in amps caused by lower restance speakers is only a problem if you are operating the amp at the limit of it's capacity.

@Jebiruph

Overall, for the 8.4 with Alpine Upgraded system…what is your recommended setup in the dash & soundbar?
I don't have any experience with the Alpine system and don't have any recommendations. There are enough differences that my base system recommendations may not apply.

I really appreciate your work @Jebiruph and everything you shared in this thread. I hope to revisit it later when I have some time to actually do some upgrades to my sound system.

Thanks for the appreciation. I will say nothing motivates a sound system upgrade like a sale at Crutchfield. I got my Infinity tweeters from them for 50% off on Black Friday.

Just wanted to come back and say I installed the Infinity 375’s the other day and I can’t even begin to tell you the difference it makes… like literally night and day. The only hiccup was the metra mounting brackets were not even close to fitting and required I trim a bunch and drill new holes for them to fit. Highly recommend this setup - tweeters in the dash corners is definitely the way to go. They’re on sale for $62 at crutchfield right now.

Glad it worked out for you. I forgot about how much work those plastic adapter plates were. It might be worth ordering a couple straps to use instead. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120BKSTRAP/Universal-Back-Strap.html

Luckily I’m a carpenter and much better at that than car audio. Good idea about the straps. You can also just gut the factory speaker and repurpose the housing I suppose. Can’t wait to put the 6.5’s in the back!

That's also a lot of work and at least 2 trips to the hardware store. One for the nylon spacer under the speaker and another for the fender washer on the bottom. I suppose now everyone else can do it in one trip. It's a slick solution, but I'll probably use a strap next time.

I replaced the JL Audio C1 – 075ct tweeters with Infinity Reference REF-375TX tweeters as discussed here https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/base-system-speaker-upgrade.75015/post-2205995.

Still happy with the way it sounds.
