Hello! First time posting and need some help. I was getting a black screen instead of my backup camera for a while and decided to dig in and figure out the problem. I noticed that when I closed the tailgate, the wire bunch would occasionally bend in and get pinched. I took a few things apart and sure enough, the wire for the backup camera that runs from the tailgate into the back of the car had damage. I am assuming this cord runs all the way to the front and plugs directly into the infotainment system, but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any idea what the part number for this cord is or have any experience replacing it? I have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport. Thanks in advance

When I added the Motobilt tire carrier I needed to buy an extension cable. I bought the coaxial cable with the correct connections from Pasternack. They will custom make cables to whatever length with whatever connectors you need.

I think the best option is just to splice the wire with a butt connector, do a nice shrink heat seal on it and move on. That should last you years if you do the connections appropriately.
I think it’s coaxial cable with can be crimped but requires some special crimping tools and connectors.

Why did you “have to buy” an extension cable? If you route the line through the vent in the back of the tailgate there is plenty of cable. Some of these photos show the tag light kit wiring but the camera cable is routed the same way.

Great pics. I didn’t think I implied “have to buy”. I chose to buy the extension preferring not to disconnect the cable directly from the camera. Just a personal preference.

Thanks I just wanted to make sure you knew that this was possible and hoped this would be helpful.

I haven't replaced it but there is a connector for it behind the passenger kick panel. So to replace the entire damaged cable I believe you would only need to pull off the kick panels on the passenger side and the plastic panel in the back.

Where did you insert that extension? Is there a connector inside the tailgate? There isn't much slack in mine after adding a Teraflex carrier.

Disconnected the original cable from the camera and added the new extension between the camera and the original cable. It’s easier for me to disconnect at the new connection than at the camera itself.

Thank you so much for posting this, helped me out so much. I was about to try and solder the coax cable, but saw this and thought I would try instead. For anyone else with the same issue, I will copy the links to the wires I used to connect everything. Simple plug and play and hide the wires. Thank you everyone for the help, finally have my backup camera back.

That’s awesome! Those cables are surprisingly inexpensive. Waayyy cheaper than a factory replacement I bet!
