Inspired by @Megawatt I am looking to brighten up my rear end, and am considering this...

https://www.oraclelights.com/produc...erse-lights?rq=mk_jeep~md_wrangler-jl~yr_2022

Already have the Oracle tail lights that are far superior to the OEM notably in the lumen area, let alone style and trail functionality.

What I like is the price ($113) to plug into my stock plastic bumper. If I upgrade to an aftermarket bumper at some point, I wouldn’t have too big of an investment and gotta think the resale value would be fair.

More to my question
can one tie these into your aux switches so that they operate as intended as enhanced backup lighting as well as on demand rear ‘camp’ lighting? Dimming capability would be the ‘cat’s meow’.

Looking forward to constructive comments here! If you want me to post a pic of my current rear end
 just ask.

You will have to run the wire to the aux switch for on demand use.

Normal install is to run the wires to the rear light so they get the signal to turn on when in reverse. If you have the tow package you can make a much shorter run and connect to that wire harness at the hitch.

Absolutely they can. The wiring they come with isn't very long, so you'd need to get some connectors and run it up to your Aux switches. They are bright as all holy. Why not?

One concern--for some reason, the right-rear LED is very, very tight on Steel bumpers....so you have to grind the aluminum housing down (others have discussed grinding down the inset in the bumper instead....which I didn't do). I finally had to put a block of wood over the face of it and rubber-mallet it into the bumper after all that. THEN...about a year ago, it started gathering condensation, even though I was careful not to grind near the fused metal/plastic edges. So there is a fitment/quality issue here as well. They sent me a replacement LED light for that side, but I don't want to begin grinding again and haven't replaced it yet. I probably would try to leach out any condensation and seal the edges/backside on both if I was to remove/fix/replace them. Just a heads-up...

Regardless, they are pretty awesome. Mine are not tied into my Aux switches, but that's a great idea so you don't have to mount other lights on the rear of your vehicle for campsite setup. They cast light over a big area, but are at knee/hip height...as a consideration for your planning.

Good luck and can't wait to see how this turns out for you!

Cheers--

I put a set of Rigid back up lights in the Motobilt bumper of my wife's JLUR after doing the lift. The OEM lights put out very little light once your a few more inches in the air. I tied onto the reverse light wire so they come on when in reverse. You can always wire them up to the aux switches but I bet once you use them a few times, you'll have them on every time you're in reverse.

If you have the option, I think I would go with one of those hitch mounted reverse lights that can plug into the trailer wiring harness.

I've got the Rigid backup lights as well, and they work great, but I have them connected to an aux switch. They're really bright, and in some cases they'd be too blinding to others. They also work great for night camp set up! Pic doesn't capture how bright they really are.

My solution on Jeepeto II was to use the same Aux switch as my main forward facing Aux lights and then use a relay to control the rear lights when the OE reverse lights came on.

The rear aux lights don’t come on under normal operation, I can back out of a parking spot without blinding everyone. they only fire when I’m running the main aux lights AND am in reverse.

Ideally, I want to be able to have the rear lights be on a toggle so they come on in reverse when I chose them to and also come on in Park (campsite) on demand. So, yes I want to tie them to my aux wiring but how do I make them turn on or not when in reverse? In other words, kind of an on and off road setting if that makes sense.

Use a toggle or aux switch to power it, but use a relay between the switch and your lights. The relay is like a switch that is actuated electrically. You tap the relay coil in with your reverse light wire. When the aux switch is on, the aux reverse lights will come on and off with the OE backup lights. This works for automatic lights but not for camp lights.

Not sure I am following. I want the lights to work with the tail reverse lights only when I throw a switch so they also come on when in reverse. Otherwise only the tail lights lights come on in reverse. I also want a manual override switch so they come on anytime I want.

Why not just on when you want?

You could run two hot wires: 1- on a switched relay; 2- on a switch; but why. Just run the switch and turn on and off at will—
