AutoPark Engaged? WTF?

Ya know I was trying to be nice and play dumb by saying I was confused. Thought maybe you would chime in and take the high road. Well that's over. You are completely wrong in your description of how autopark works and your contradicting the manual excerpt above. Just admit it, the Tazer isn't disabling autopark if you still need the seatbelt engaged. Period

I never contradicted the manual excerpt. I never tried to explain how auto park works.. I understand about the seat belt..

All I was / am trying to say is with the stock JL, I cannot open the driver's door while moving forward or moving in reverse. IF I do open the door, the vehicle comes to an abrupt halt .... is in auto park. So, if I am backing up a trailer, and I open the door to look back... to see better the JL stops.... is in auto park. This happens whether the seat belt is buckled or not. Happens going forward or in reverse.

Now, if I select ON in Tazer JL settings in regard to disable auto park, I can now open the driver's door when driving/ moving forward or when backing up. I can backup a trailer with the driver's door open. I can drive forward with the driver's door open. Again, I cannot do this without the Tazer JL.


In closing, with the Tazer JL., I am a head of the game regardless................

Then your Jeep is not operating correctly and you might want to bring it in for service. The Autopark WILL NOT engage if you open the door with the seat belt latched. If any one of the condition as listed in the manual are not met, then Autopark will not engage - seat belt latched is one of them (yes, I've test it). That's why the Tazer requires the belt to be latched - it really isn't defeating the Autopark function, the seat belt is.

I'm done with this. Don't really need the TazerJL, might get the light for tire size change, that's about it.

According to the manual “ALL” of the listed conditions have to be met. So if you leave your seat belt buckled it should not autopark when you open the door. Is this not true?

Because of this back and forth in this thread, I just went out and with the Tazer JL not in the picture, I fooled with triggering auto park.

I have had my JL since May, and when I originally fooled with auto park I am sure I could not backup or move forward with the door open and seat belt fastened. SO, I hooked up the Tazer JL a couple of weeks after and found I could now open the door when backing up as long as I had my seat belt fastened. I thought the Tazer JL gave me this perk..

WELL, just fooled with the JL and damm, it is behaving exactly as per the manual excerpt.... as you mentioned..

So, indeed the TazerJL is not disabling auto park as I still need to keep the seat belt fastened.

In closing, I still feel the Tazer JL is probably the best addition to my JL. All the other features are a real plus to me.

The "problem" is AutoPark, period. It's a nanny program designed for morons. Jeep probably spent a ton of money putting it in the software to protect us from ourselves. Odd....never had it before on any other vehicle and never had a problem. What I want is the stupid "feature" removed. My gut instinct says (if it's not simply a nanny program)...Jeep knows the 8 speed has a problem staying in park...hence the software "bandaid" to mask the problem (and is the "solution" to it).

Wasn’t the autopark feature a product of the bump shifter which proved to be too confusing for some owners? Now that Jeep has gone back to a traditional shifter, no need for autopark.

No idea. I have no experience with their bump shifter....I'm assuming it's like manual mode in a Lexus or similar where you can "pretend" you are shifting by bumping the lever up and down to simulate shift an manual? Just a guess...... never used that on our Lexus as it also had paddles.

Yes. You actually bumped the shifter to put it in Park, Neutral, Drive, Reverse. I never used one either, but it appears you had to bump it forward three spots to put it in Park from Drive. If you only bumped it forward once from Drive, you are in Neutral. That’s what killed that actor when it rolled down his driveway and ran him over.

So how is that incorrect, exactly? Did I or did I NOT state that you have to leave the Tazer (or Superchipsm, for that matter) plugged in?

I *EAGERLY* await your response, LOL.

Honestly I thought it unideal to leave it plugged in, used to only use it offroad, now I just leave the tazer plugged in, no harm no foul.

My BMW X3 also has this auto park "feature". Drove me crazy trying to figure out what is happening when it was engaging into park while slowly moving. My driver door wasn't closed tight. It can't be great for a transmission to throw a moving car into park. It also has a bump shifter.
