Yes but many love shifting gears, like myself. The auto is good but so what. I like doing thinks while I’m climbing the mountain Service roads.
So what? Years of recalls and unresolved clutch issues eventually makes the manual transmission a non-starter with many buyers who were set on getting it. That’s what.

I have and will continue to blame Jeep drivers for the manual transmission "issue". Friction generates heat, that's some physics 101. For you to burn a Jeep down, you would have to generate inordinate amounts of clutch slip without stopping. Which indicts Jeep drivers for being comically inattentive, or dense, or having no sense of feel, or any combination thereof. If the first symptom you notice of a bad clutch is the resultant fire, or the molten fragments shot through the chassis, then the buck is on you. If you are attentive, and understand the mechanics of a manual transmission, you will not be burning your Jeep down.

All clutches wear. It's a wear item. When it's worn, it will slip. Most every other car community deals with worn clutches, especially on older/vintage cars, and they do so without catastrophically burning their car down. Take some 80s sports car forum, they have far more worn clutches in their ranks than the relatively new JL. But the only special people that will keep driving it while it slips until it turns volcanic are Jeep people.
Perhaps. But blaming the user is the first no-no in operations management.

At the end of the day, no automaker, Jeep or otherwise, can build and sell a vehicle that relies on the user to ensure that it does NOT burn down their house.

I disagree. Most manual Jeep buyers are manual or Nothing. They will either enjoy it like I do. Not whine about pedal feed back or whatever. OR get that Center point thing. I personally love my current stock manual. Setup. Sure it’s different than my TJ or JK or 1970 C10 3 in the tree. Thry are all fine. If someone opts for the auto then they were on the fence anyway. That what.

Good for you.

Unfortunately, the numbers don’t support the way you view the world.

...and the numbers don't mean squat if you're happy with what you drive. I, too, "view the world" through 6MT glasses...don't get all huffy because you can't drive a manual. ?

Manual transmission guys:

There are all sorts of reasons why manual transmission sales only represent 3% of sales: recalls, whatever dealers choose to keep in inventory, young drivers who can’t shift, automaker’s margins, dealers’ margins, etc.

Nobody is judging anyone on your purchase decision. Stop getting all twisted into a pretzel.

See, that has nothing to do with it.

My other car is a Fiat Spider with a 6-speed manual. So you don’t even know what you are talking about.

Time to put you on “ignore.” Life’s too short.

Manual vs. automatic, 9mm vs .45, beans vs. no beans in chili, it's a completely religious argument, nobody on this thread is going to have their mind changed. LOL. In my case, I bought my hated, un-resellable, worthless 2-Door manual fully knowing about the clutch issue. No big, I've been driving a stick all my life and for a fun vehicle I'm OK with the potential risk of the clutch exploding into a mushroom shaped ball of fire on the expressway at 4:45 PM.

I fully expect that the next generation Wrangler will do away with the manual. The current take rate is way too low for the beancounters to support the costs involved and the upcoming Hurricane engine wasn't designed to support a manual. The 6-spd JL is the last of a dying breed and I'm glad I have one.

I wonder what the actual failure rate is. Never had a problem with my own, I see more 2.0t water leaks and 3.6 engine rockers and cams going to shit than manuals. Plus as far as danger goes seems to be way down on the list. As with many things around here seems to get completely blown out of proportion.
When it happens to you, the failure rate is 100%. I wouldn't put my legs into a manual JL and drive around. I knew someone with a missing foot.

So what you’re saying is 100% of clutch issues are due to user error? 100%? I repeat 100%. Seriously you can’t be that naive.

And if that were the case, riding the clutch results in a burnt up clutch, not a burnt up vehicle. C’mon get for real.
