Automatic vs. Manual Sales Split

Wow, let’s try this again. I’ll try to make it very basic for you. I borrowed my brother’s JL 4 door Rubicon (3.6) for over a week. I put over 200 miles on it. I also test drove the 4 poppers during that time, and much preferred the engine, especially at altitude. Also took the neighbors 392 out for a spin which was a hoot. Now, this is where you may get very confused, so I’ll try to take it slow here. I would NOT purchase any Wrangler again with the 3.6 given today’s alternatives. But I guess since I don’t own a 3.6 JL my opinion is no longer valid. But I’ll let you try to figure out my idiotic logic of purchasing something that I don’t prefer. Maybe I’ll buy one from Carmax and return it so I can say I owned one to better validate my opinion.
So to summarize you don't own one. Thanks

What you will or will not purchase is irrelevant. Thanks

Wut are you talking about? No one is knocking it other than from a reliability standpoint. And the fact it’s only available with the anemic 3.6. But sshh…Jeep is aware of the manual issues and not fixing them. It’ll be our little secret. They’d rather not sell any manuals and avoid your wagon all together.
Bingo— If a stouter 7 spd granny box with a proper clutch was offered on all engines ? Take rate ? Clearly they have no inclination to sell more manuals. Edit— if a Tremec Magnum 6spd with a 392 in a 2dr was offered I would be driving it. They choose to give both manuals and 2dr’s no love.

Yes, sorry I won’t buy a Jeep with an underpowered engine when there are better engine alternatives. Got me!

I can't think of any model that has not had or has recalls. Maybe 392 has none?

Love my manual four door. Next will be a base sport 2 door. With a/c that’s it

Not yet, ordered April of 21 , hope I didn’t just initiate the “dont mention a no-hitter in the 9’th inning” jinx.

I should trade in on 392. But damn with interest rates even with a good trade in value and probably MSRP stupid payments would be 1200 for 60 months. Ugh

Crap thread. Not a crap clutch.

Back on manual take rate:

~JLs sold: 1,094,000
~MTs recalled: 69,000

Take rate: 6.3%
The recent rare MTs are 4DR, per ratbert's scrape.
No, the recall number includes the Gladiator, so your estimate is wrong.

No need to be condescending.

Since you are determined to keep bashing the V6, I’ll share MY impressions:

I test drove twelve JLs before buying one; a mix of Rubicons and Saharas, 4 and 6 cylinders, 2 and 4 doors, automatics and manuals.

The 2.0T did feel spunky, but that was it. The power delivery was uneven, but the worst part to me was that it sounded like a freaking Hamilton Beach.

I get it, some people like that. In fact, I have a Fiat turbo engine in my 124 Spider. The turbo kick can be fun, especially in car like that. Having said that, the tiny 1.4T in my Fiat sounds a hundred times better than the 2.0T Jeep uses on JL.

What really held me back, though, was that the 2.0T was largely unproven in 2019, when I bought my Jeep. And let’s face it, Fiat doesn’t have the best quality reputation.

So far, 2.0Ts appear to be holding better than I expected. But as they start to reach 60,000+ miles, they are starting to show some issues of their own.

At the end of the day, we all get what we like, that’s why we have choices. That doesn’t mean my Jeep is better than yours or the other way around.

I’m not bashing it per se. It’s underpowered IMO. It’s reliable enough and fine. Great option back in 2012 coming from the 3.8. But there are better options now… in my opinion. Clearly I’m hurting feelings so I’ll bow out. Excuse me while I go walk up hill both ways. Carry on.

You cannot judge JL’s 3.6 V6 by your JK experience.

JL’s engine feels much more responsive and refined than it did on JK. Some of it due to a heavily revised design, but much of it thanks to the amazing 8-speed auto.
Sure you can. Not much difference in power between the 3.6 engines. The difference is the gearing and extra gears help the torque-less curve in the 3.6 feel a lot better. The manual lacks the extra gears / gearing to allow that.

But you left out that that’s now the third or fourth recall on the stupid clutch in six years.
