The 850RE in my JLU gets new transmission fluid and a filter every 60K miles, per the guidance from ZF themselves.

I drain and refill the fluid at least twice, with 1K miles in between each service. The system capacity is ~9 quarts, but from experience only 5.5 quarts will drain out each time. My selling dealer refused to perform this service, leaning heavily on the misleading "Lifetime Fill" language evident in the Owner's Manual.

I keep a spare OEM pan gasket on hand, which of course guarantees that I won't need it.

This thread will assist the owner who performs the work himself.

i did one drain and filter at 45,000 and one at 90,000 (miles). pretty straightforward but can be a little time consuming for newbies like me.

Over a week ago changed the transmission fluid on a 2020 JL two door; got it used a couple of months ago with 76K miles on it.
The fluid was near black, no abnormal smell, magnets covered with super fine wear material.
Drained about 5 quarts (needed refill was over 6 quarts)
Changing the fluid to AMSOIL.
Cleaned the pan, reinstalled with old filter, filled with AMSOIL.
Note: with the JL level, I could only get less than 3 quarts in (in the two door, the transmission sits at a pronounced tilt to aft) jacked up the rear and got another quart in.
After going through the oil level check procedure, I had to add over two quarts.
Ordered a PPE aluminum pan (better cooling and will take more fluid)
Installed it today.
Note: AMSOIL is red, the oil I removed was a dirty dark red.
I will be doing one more fluid change (good thing the PPE pan has a drain plug, no need to remove the exhaust crossover pipe to remove the pan)
All this just to say: Change the fluid at 50K or less, that lifetime fluid claim by Jeep is BS!

Oh, and the fill plug on the two door is a mother effer to get to, you got about an inch clearance between the tranny and the fuel tank to get to it...

Do you have a link for the PPE pan? Having a drain plug would be super helpful before dropping the pan.
