So i got a quote today from a reputable shop.

Parts and labour for a regear with Yukon gears, $3,650 CAD …. Oooooooouch
That's expensive AF, shop around for sure. I got a deal from a shop I ran into at an off road expo, I paid $1500 total and that was with the REM polished upgrade.

Did you reprogram for the larger tize size? If not, that is a major part of the issue.

It's like none of these replies understand just how big a difference there is between Rubicon 4.10s and 3.45's. 3.45s and 35s are not good. 4.10s and 35s are great for some of us, marginal for others. I'm a fan of tallish gears, but within reason. 4.56 and 35s or even 37's is perfect for me, but 3.45s are crap. Couple that with no 4-1 transfer case gears and its not even good in 4LO.

just ordered 38” Ridge Grapplers.

Im going with 5.13 Dana Spicer gears. Regear is going to be $2400 out the door. I was getting quotes in my area same price for Revolution or G2 gears, so this seemed reasonable.

Im currently on 35” KM3s, v6/auto. Drives good. I see 8th but has to be flat or downhill. I get around 15ish city and 17.5 highway. Im hoping with the 5.13s and 38s the MPGs will stay similar..but maybe thats wishful thinking.

Im running 2.5” Rock Krawler lift and Bushwacker Highline flares. Running 2” bumpstop up front w/ Fox 2.0 shocks. hoping I dont have to go to 3” for these tires. If I do, does anyone know if you can add the RK bumpstop without pulling the spring? im thinking if I can flex and spread the spring, I might be able to slip the puck in and get the wrench in there.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies this thread has been super helpful

While i’m still pricing out i had a shop ask me if I need a master install? What is this and do i need it?

FYI 3 shops now seem to be on the side of 4.88s for my needs and my area.

thanks

You do need it. It is the bearings, bolts, shims, etc. required to install the gears. You will need one for each axle (they are different though).

If you install gears you need to use a master install kit.

If the shop doesn't know whether you need a master install kit or not, I'd look for another shop.

If they're just asking if you already have one or not, tell them you need one.

Do shops who are charging much less labour really know what they are doing in regard to re gears?

A shop that claims they are regear kings tell me 12 hours labour
